The AL-41F offers some specific advantages over the AL-31F such as super cruise capability, 3D thrust vector nozzle (Al-31F has 2D only) and over better fuel consumption and MTBS. Agreed that the cost will be high, however, the plan as far as I know is to time the upgrades to when the current...

Mica-IR is a CCM missile with near BVR capabilities. Same as the Python 5 and R73E. Unless you're trying to suggest that the French AF send their Rafale's and Mirages into combat for last 10 years without any CCM missile since Magic series has long been retired

That is cost paid for all the MKI's built by UAC for the IAF. As per the original contract, out of 272 aircraft ordered, HAL has built 180. Rest all have been fully imported especially at early stage. The original cooperative agreement has allocation for upto 350 MKI's for a fixed price.

Yes...and how much did it cost? And why have they still bought MICA-IR at €1M a piece? Has the M2K ever actually carried an R73 into a CAP? No That's what I mean, there are totally different trajectories happening with no broader agenda. Hence a lot of money gets wasted without any practical result

The IAF and HAL both need to wake up and understand that trying to integrate disparate systems from multitude of sources is a brainless exercise. Too much time and money has been spent on trying to get russian radar to talk to french misson computer to give readouts on Israeli instruments and...

How does one "tropicalise" a jet engine? And why would it affect the radius? Jammer part is not true. Elta pods are meant as a plug and play solution so they have a good and easy integration process

With this latest test phase successfully passed let's hope the IAF actually gets around to ordering the Astra. Or maybe they'll want to conduct another round of tests during the next magnetic pole shift? Just to be sure? :truestory:

Russians offered what they are doing for their SM3 package. IAF is unhappy with it as they want an AESA radar and digital self protection suite neither of which Russians currently have. HAL has yet to commence any search for alternative sources for these components.

Since this SU-30 thread has devolved into a US vs Russia missile defense systems dick measuring contest...I suggest read this and absorb. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/16652/missile-defense-madness-myth-of-perfect-patriots-magic-thaad-and-the-icbm-shield AND GET BACK ON TOPIC

Yeah bhai...90% of the problems with R&D in Indian defense would be solved if the great geniuses simply let go of the notion that they are somehow all knowing gyaani brahma blessed special super brain descendants of Aryabhata

Yeah...cause it was originally meant to power the HJT-36 which doesn't require afterburner as its not supersonic. The inordinate delay in both projects lead to de-coupling of the development and HJT-36 is now made with imported Saturn Al-55 engine from Russia As a result the HTFE-25 currently...

If you consider wiki and national interest as sources then I have nothing further to add to this discussion. In any case, go through Rafale thread, there have been in depth discussion on Spectra in past.

Active cancellation is an advanced form of jamming. The difference in Spectra is the subtlety it uses to do it rather than the brute force which other systems use which is interpreted as active cancellation. BTW 90% of Spectra capabilities are classified and not known at all in public domain.

    Sukhoi Su 30MKI

You are mistaken in your understanding of Spectra. It has nothing to do with RCS reduction. The Rafale has certain specific contouring in its structural design to reduce its basic RCS without external weapons. Spectra is an EW suite which fuses multiple sensors, jammers, warning systems and...

Looks like HAL will somehow twist and turn the IAF to get those 72 additional MKI orders they desperately want. Also on the SU-34 yes the MTOW is higher than SU-30 but that's because the basic airframe is much heavier due to more structure for better low level performance and also higher fuel...

Bhai..90% of the items in your list even by admission of the original poster are either on development or in planning. Few if any have been implemented fleet wide and many of them are actually part of the original MKI programme but have been delayed due to development failure along the way. So...

NEZ is defined as the range at which a target is unable to "outrun" a missile in a tail chase situation. Even head on, if an aircraft detects a missile launch the immediate action is to turn and run. They try to simply outrun the missile. Every missile only has finite "powered" flight till its...

The problem IAF is concerned with about MKI new orders is a legitimate one. HAL is basically still making the same aircraft which configuration was fixed in 1998. In the intervening 20 years, technology has moved forward leaps and bounds but the MKI has seen no incremental Block type improvement...

Most bases are totally surrounded by settlement right upto the boundary wall. Previous Govts long standing lackadaisical attitude towards base security and illegal encroachment of boundary zones has put IAF in a bind in most cases. Most of the options you suggest are not feasible
