With 5.5 ton internal fuel, what is the expected range?

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

ORCA project can only move ahead after the first flight of TEDBF which is scheduled in 2026. In IAF service ORCA can be optimised as a dedicated fighter bomber like Su-34; or a dedicated EW aircraft like Growler. In either case, it wont clash directly AMCA.

Posssible with the new 110 KN engine in developement. Not possible with GE-414.

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

TEDBF has provisions for external weapons only because Navy demanded it. They specifically rejected a Naval version of AMCA because of the restrictions imposed by its stealth design on its aerodynamic, and weapons carrying capability in a Naval operations.

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

    1. I think this RV is nothing but the TD models which is to be developed befor AMCA first prototype roll out in 2024. 2. We heard that VEM is constructing a 1:1 scale model for RCS testing and it was to be completed by 2020 or 2021. 3. This image from idrw is just a fanart nothing else.

What will be the effect of delta wings and vertical tail fin on the frontal RCS of TEDBF?

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Not a bad idea from the design perspective. Any of the older AMCA models from 3B-01 to 3B-09 can be used. AMCA team in ADA has generated a huge amount of design data regarding AMCA from 2008-09 onwards and tested several models in wind tunnel. But so has been also done on LCA Navy programme by...

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

No this one is the old LCA Navy MK2 model showcased in Aero-India 2019. Since then Navy has moved on to twin engineed TEDBF. I think the other model being referred to is the trapezoidal wing version with tail (as per DDR interview). Tthough there is no news of it going to wind-tunnel testing...

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

The air intake in the model undergoing wind testing is similar to the old AMCA intake. May be they are dropping DSI to improve the aerodynamic performance?

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Naval AMCA was in Navy's mind, since 2015-16. ADA even completed a feasibility study for them. However few things came up: 1. Navy wanted Naval AMCA to be designed and developed first, based on that Airforce version to be developed. 2. However, little interest was shown to Navy's proposal from...

Serpentile intake is ruled out due to loss of thrust (as per DDR interview).

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

I would like the canard in TEDBF to be plainform aligned with the wing. Would help to reduce frontal RCS.

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Currently ORCA will be piggybacking on TEDBF project. Problem is first Navy should settle on a preliminary design for TEDBF. Currentlt both canard-delta as well as trapezoidal wings+tail configuration is considered. Only after TEDBF design finalization, ORCA can be conceptualized. Hence IAF is...

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

TEDBF will be slightly heavier than AMCA. Also, it will carry more weapons. So AMCA will have better T/W ratio (if both aircrafts has same engine) and not the other way round.

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Navalization of AMCA can only happen after the first flight of AMCA Mk1. The task won't be easy, as Naval aircraft requires many changes from air force version. That too if Navy is willing and funds are made available. So we are looking at a time scale of 2035-2040 at the earliest. Till then...

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Until 2025 actual prototype roll out no design is fixed. We will surely see new models of TEDBF for the next two Aero-India in 2023 and 2025, just like we are saw 7 models of AMCA from Aer-India 2009-2021 and we will see one more in 2023.

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Very nice and futuristic designs made by you. I wouldn't be surprised if these design end up in PDF and SDF as official TEDBF designs from ADA. However, first design is a delta and second one is delta. For trapezoidal wings the trailing edge should have a more pronounced forward sweep. PS...

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

I agree about the limitations in V-tail. But how about more conventional twin tail in canard + delta design. Like this one:

    TEDBF or ORCA Updates

Instead of a single vertical tail, how about going for a V-tail (like YF-23 style) or twin tail ( like mig 1.44 style). Don't know its impact on aerodynamic performance, but it can improve stealth features. Probably, won't matter to navy since it's requirement is a twin engine 4.5 gen fighter...
