Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Repeat order for Sig-716 is off the table. Though it is not clear what will GOI push for Infantry soldier's Insas replacement? Will it be OFB -R2 or any other indegeneous 7.62*51 mm rifle? Or will it be AK-203 manufactured in OFB?

Given free floated handguard in all different rifles: Accuracy: Roller-delayed blowback > DI > Short-stroke piston > Long stroke piston. Though SCAR-H and HK-417 based DMRs (both short-stroke designs) are capable of sub-MOA precision, however from IA's inventory perspective: PSG-1 (0.5 MOA) >...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Overall conclusion of the Task & Purpose video is something many will agree. The AK-12 is basically a souped up version of AK-74M and should have been named AK-74 mod2. From Russian point of view, they should have gone with furniture updrage on their huge stockpile of AK-74 rifles (from...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Mechansized Infantry is separate from IA's 380 batallions of Infantry + 65 (RR+AR) batallions. They do require small sized guns which can fit inside their BMPs. But if they will get AK-203s then why is 93k +360k 5.56 mm carbine being procured separately?

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

The requirement of 7.62*51 mm was originally envisaged for replacing Insas. The army issued the tender in 2017-18 for 72k for frontline troops only, with an option of repeat order of 72k rifles. The rest of the troops were suppossed to get the OFB R-2 rifle (which was being tested and finetuned...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

It is just an addon. similar to foregrip and other attachments which we are/will purchase for our Sigs. The muzzle does not impede with the critical parts of the gun namely its BCG or receiver. It is just an external add on. This will not void the warranty on the gun, be rest assured. The...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Fitting the muzzle device developed by OFB for their 7.62*51 mm R2 rifle on Sig-716 will minimize the recoil to a large extent and can also enable comfortable firing even in full auto. This one

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

The G-3s have around 18 inch barrel, while Sig has around 16 inch barrel. Thus G-3s will outrange Sig by a little margin, however the accuracy of Sigs is much higher than G-3s.

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

IMHO there was no need to replace the SLRs in the 90s with Insas. Back then Pakis were our primary adversary. They were using G-3s back then and still using that now as their standard infantry firearm. Modernized SLRs and reverse engineered AKs (for CI role) should have been the choice in the...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Why was SLR 1C not accepted in the 90s? Why was Para FAL version not considered, given OFB's previous experience in making SLRs? Why was Insas R-2 rejected in 2017? The answer according to IA is 'recoil'. Now the question arises why should the 'recoil' yardstick not applied to Sigs? Now we...
