    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

I communicated with the TOI reporter on it and he said the IA agreed certain things with the OFB and then went to the press with something different (getting the OFB angry). I am glad the OFB answered. Of course more development is needed but don't dismiss things yet.

Kunal, what's your take on all this? A complete OFB flop rifle or a fixable rifle or army hell bent on imports? If the latter, cut the garbage and consider the Tavor in 7.62 NATO or Galil ACE. Not that they are fantastic but Punj Lloyd is established with IWI already.

Kay, there are ways to do that. Spares stocks, contracts allowing local partners to take over progressively. All of that can be done. You are not wrong. But I bet if no imports were available, the OFB rifle would have been accepted.

This I can accept. To expect immediate perfection is insane. The issues can be resolved but OFB better get its act together. They have been given the first chance and can deliver. The weapon was inadequately tested before trials. More haste less speed.

Is there a 7.62 NATO version of the Tavor now?

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

Kunal, speaking with some guys at CLAWS, they were puzzled by the infantry's request. They could understand 7.62 x 39 but not this. That said, if it works, I'll be happy. Now I have to wonder what will become the section level LMG?

Kunal, have you ever fired an Indian SLR? How was build quality?

Guys, Sengupta wasn't right this time. The rifle on display was a Mk1C in 7.62mm NATO with an AK-103. It was reported that the AK-103 was licensed to OFB.

Kunal, what about persistent complaints that the 9mm carbine was prone to discharge too easily if dropped?

    INSAS Rifle, LMG & Carbine

No indication this is in 7.62mm x 51mm. I am delighted about it but am a little confused.

A question - I've seen the Dragunovs used as DMRs with the RR and some other units. I've seen one photo of a SLR with an optical sight with the AP Greyhounds but while I have seen optical sights developed for INSAS and a few in use, why aren't a few issued to each section to support the Dragunov...

Forget looks - does it work reliably? Is it accurate? Is it capable of modifications?

You suspect the figure is considerably higher Kunal? I believe you'd be right. The armed forces would take maybe 1.3m for active service personnel alone. BSF, CRPF, ITBP and CISF are all all INSAS.

Hey, that was from a Kunal post. I wonder if any SLRs are still held in reserve stock by the army?
