    Kaveri Engine

You could have asked @Chinmoy what was on his mind. 27/100 is definitely more than 1/27 :biggrin2:

What @Chinmoy meant is 1/27 is less than 1/16

    Kaveri Engine

Idiot !! Engine oil is for lubricating the moving parts (bearings), not for cooling engine.

You don't even know what you are talking about and hope to justify one non-sense with another.

Here we are talking only about Turbo-fan jet engine which is of same design for civilian as well as military use. Only difference is military engine may add an after-burner for additional thrust at the cost of fuel economy and noise. Nozzle vectoring may be another one. We are not talking about...

    Kaveri Engine

In a turbo fan engine, fuel (kerosene ?) is injected through a nozzle in combustion chamber. Fuel never travels to any other part of the shaft or blades. You may be talking of cooling liquid rocket motor.

    Kaveri Engine

Both compressor & turbine blades have rotor bearings. They are located within sealed bearing compartments. Lub oil supplied by the pressure pump is directed through individual supply lines and sprayed on the bearings through one or more nozzles per bearing. Figure below shows the arrangement of...

    Kaveri Engine

Fluid dynamics will not be affected..the engine will not be tethered loosely to the body like a kite. Pressure, viscous force ,specific gravity, turbulence will be same as engines hung from wings as in passenger jets. Modern fuel injection and combustion are computer controlled to take care of...

    Kaveri Engine

Is gasoline the best coolant for a jet engine? It is fine at high altitude becoz it freezes only at -50°C. But if we operate such Engines in May/ June in Rajasthan Sector...what is the coolant in M88 (Rafale), gasoline? Btw, I thought Silvercrest engine produced 8000 pound thrust. That is...

    Kaveri Engine

This I believe is a relatively smaller engine of 35Kn thrust. Kinds trainer Jets use. What kind of snag encountered? Snecma is vastly experienced... seems spooky.

    Kaveri Engine

See the website of DRDO affiliated DMRL. I saw it in a defencepk thread though. Though this cannot solve the turbo-fan throwing problem of Kaveri.

    Kaveri Engine

You just want to have the last say before qitting the debate; so I give up. You are bringing on irrelevant issues just to win the argument. For the last time, RPM is controlled by gear not engine. Every engine/ motor gives optimal output. It is reduced by proportionate reduction in amount of...

    Kaveri Engine

Not different. It is exactly like other two applications. The on-board turbine generates electricity which is fed into a series of massive inverters. These inverters supply power to the traction motor.

I read somewhere, in modern warplanes, pitch, roll & yaw are controlled by a computer algorithm (part of avionics suite). In older aircrafts like Mig-21, these were juggled manually by pilots employing hydraulic-mechanical controls requiring considerable skill. Now, think when a fighter jet...

    Kaveri Engine

See my earlier post linking an ET Article. Kaveri variant was being considered for all three applications:- 1. Marine propulsion 2. Locomotives 3. Power generation For power generation, only modification is , the generated thrust is released into a chamber containing dynamo to turn it.

    Kaveri Engine

Nope..:biggrin2: BHEL routinely installs gas turbines for power generation. Railways tried gas turbine on a modified loco in 2010.

    Kaveri Engine

GTRE fabricated Kaveri at its own facilities. DRDO labs are not starved of facilities or funds. Successive Govts. pampered them. Only, scientists & engineers are mediocre.

    Kaveri Engine

It is a pretty old report. Now that Kaveri itself is in a bit of doldrums, we can't count on its spin-offs. http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2009-08-03/news/28446695_1_kaveri-engine-kaveri-project-drdo

    Kaveri Engine

HAL didn't do the prototype of Kaveri. GTRE, a DRDO lab did it. Kaveri kmgt is based on Kabni Core, without after-burner. This should not be an engineering challenge. But as you say, nothing has been heard since long. Everything may not be hunky dory.
