    Project-17A Nilgiri-class Frigate Thread

March 2024, and we still have not seen a fully completed vessel from the Nilgiri Class. Mind you, after we see a fully completed INS Nilgiri, it will still take about 6 months for trials to end, and be fit for commissioning. 2024-2028, in this 5 year frame we retire 3 Rajput class and induct 1...

Finally we are seeing a good level of modular construction at MDL and GRSE. Launched in 2 years and 5 months and decent work on superstructure already completed. Here was INS Vishakapatnam launch within 1.5 years. Just the plain old Hull. Ended up taking 6.5 years more till commissioning...

GRSE had already stated that their first Project 17A wont be ready before 2025 in some previous interview comment. First INS Nilgiri from MDL should be ready for commissioning by 3rd quarter of 2024, for which we have to see the fully constructed ship into its trials by the end of this year.

I just realised that they have already conducted 4 Live testing of VL SRM, 2 from Warships. INS Rana is already integrated with 16 x VL SRM. Now if Nilgiri is not added with 16 x VLSRM along with the 32 x Barak 8, it would be sheer stupidity .

Russia and punctuality? hell no. lol. Official delivery timeline is for Nov 2023, and it will surely be spilled into 2024. But yeah 2024 should be a good year 1 DDG and 2 FFG.

lol, Uk keeps begging India to join its programmes . They did it when their Frigate programme back around 2013 and lately their fighter programme. Ultimately they take in Beta countries like Australia, Canada, etc who end up buying overpriced Uk made products.

Nilgiri has 500 kms range MFSTAR AESA radar - the heart of the warship Type 26 has 3D Artisan medium range radar - the same class as the Revati radar on our Kamorta Class - though a generation advanced. But still nowhere near MFSTAR.

At first, I thought the same. But it seems unrealistic that it would take 10 years for 2 Shipyards working simultaneously to deliver 7 Frigates. I think they mean 10 years from now, i.e 2025. MDL would lay down the first Frigate in 2017, and will deliver it by 2022 and the next 3 at intervals...

Project 15B costs 1.2Bil$ each. Both Project 15B and Project 17A are much more advanced than Kolkata Class. And I was right, Russia is asking for 1 Bil$ for each Talwar Class Frigate. India to spend $3 billion for 3 more Talwar-class frigates | Russia & India Report We can get 6000 -8000...

Dont worry, Prices will baloon upto 1.5 to 2 Bil$ with delays :P But are you seriously comparing Project 17A to Talwars? Thats beyond comparision. And i bet a Talwar today would cost almost 1 Bil$ as well. it costed almost 400mil$ each for the first 3, way back in 1997 when the contract was...

We have a very pragmatic outsourcing policy: Rear Admiral (Retd) RK Shrawat | The Financial Express ""MDL is in the fray to build seven warships under Navy Project 17A. what is the time line and cost for this? We have recently signed the contract for building seven ships, three of which will...
