    It will have to be a new alignment. Narrow gauge is 2' 6" wide and allows for sharper curves. Broad Gauge is 5' 6" wide and needs wider curves. Broad Gauge is not possible along the existing route along which the Narrow Gauge runs.

    I bet there are financial considerations behind this decision. Mumbai is like an island, difficult to access, and is saturated. If it were up to me, I'd consider a brand new terminal in Navi Mumbai near the new airport.

    @anoop_mig25, I agree with you. Most of the poor people would get food from home. Jan Ahar might not be effective in overnight journeys, where a person boards a train in the evening, and reaches his destination the next morning. I do think that for longer routes, Jan Ahar could be relevant.
