AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

The first version of AURA is expected to be powered by a Kaveri K-9+ derivative. This was also mentioned by the MoD in the Parliament. But AMCA will need the new K-10, whenever they decide to make one. AMCA will have two TDs, I suppose the first one may see first flight in 2020. These may be...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Yes, all current and future technology roadmaps will be studied before undertaking a project of this magnitude. ADA will benefit from the development of LCA while HAL will benefit from the development of Rafale, Super MKI and FGFA. The various companies related to these aircraft will also pool...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

For our design we may not need all moving vertical stabilizers. You will have to ask an AMCA designer this question. :-)

EJ2X0, F-414G, RD-33M, and M88-3. These are the engines I can think of as a temporary measure. M88-3 is not yet built, but it may be available depending on UAE. It is the least likely. But the first three are very likely contenders with the first two as the most likely contenders for having...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Current Kaveri is an old generation engine. No point having a 5th gen aircraft and an old gen engine. It defeats the purpose of designing AMCA. Kaveri is currently older than AL-31F.

Supercruising and TVC is part of AMCA specs as well. It will be a two engine design, so engine specs are for 75 - 110 KN.

The only other choice is Saturn's Item 30 engine. But, it's not happening, so no point talking about it.

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Yeah, that image is fake and made by some fanboy. Not an official LCA/MCA image. HAL has nothing to do with the design of LCA and AMCA. Also, the image lists two different designs, one under ADA/DRDO and the other as ADA/HAL. That doesn't make sense at all. ADA is simply a lab under DRDO, so...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Normally something like AMCA should take 5000 hours of flight testing. LCA had some 2000 odd test points to clear for IOC and FOC. That needs 2500 flight hours of tests. AMCA should have around 10 or 20 times more test points. It gets easier because AMCA can stay in the air longer than LCA...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

AMCA is on indefinite hold. It would have been possible to start had the engine negotiations gone well. Now, a new tender is out, so for the next two years we will be starting into the skies twiddling our thumbs before a decision is made. GTRE wanted $2 Billion to make a new engine with...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Ah, now I am a bit disappointed. People, you can see here how it eats up space in the fuselage. Anyway, Twinblade, is it certain that AMCA will be an air superiority aircraft?

No, I don't know why this wasn't chosen. Anyway FBL and FBW shouldn't make a difference when it comes to software.

I don't know about this aspect. But we need to wait and see how the Russian treat their aircraft's inlet. Maybe we will never know.

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

It is a design feature. If you go for serpentine intakes then you cannot go beyond mach 2 because the inlets won't be able to handle the shock. And they take up more space inside the fuselage. But on the other hand, it is cheaper to design than a variable intake and reduces costs. You can also...

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Small mistake in my previous post. I said YF-22 did not have serpentine intakes, my bad, it's YF-23.

RAM coatings, radar blockers, composite and ceramic blades etc. This is a radar blocker on the Super Hornet.

AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (HAL)

Serpentine intakes are an utter waste of space. YF-22 did not have it, PAKFA does not have it. There are much better ways to reduce inlet emissions than restrict airflow with serpentine intakes. S-ducts are better off in subsonic aircraft which are required to be cheaper.
