LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

Yeah, we are looking at some long-term US ass kissing. Hope US doesn't take U-turn and completely backstabs us.

IRST in BVR scenarios (> 50km) won't give a lock-on. Also I don't think J10C carries any BVR IR missile which can get lock-on BVR ranges.

First define these factors - Is AWACS support present ? Can you slave the BVRs to AWACS datalink ? Missiles used by Tejas & J10C, assuming F-16s will be using AIM-120C5. What is the NEZ for those missiles ? What SPJs being used by both sides. Is it 1 vs. 1 or a group fight ? What's the...

I think you are interpreting this wrongly. See the metallic areas (gun exhaust) which are made of titanium, as well as engine exhaust nacelle which is metal, are cold (dark). If you think about it, it makes sense since metals are good conductors (and dissipators) of heat. Composite...

Have we got any confirmation on this? Is Mk1A getting upscaled Uttam Mk1 ? What about power o/p from GE-F404 ? Is it enough to power the 912 TRM to its full potential ?

Again, we if take its full range (150km), it is still inadequate to track Meteor whose range is in excess of 180km. OR Airforce is not an idiot. If they are integrating Meteor with Tejas, that means Uttam's range is in excess of Meteor's range, but I really doubt that.

Actually, I am not unhappy with the decision of delaying the Su-30MKI radar upgrade in favor of a better radar. The existing PESA Bars radar is good enough for most 4th-gen fighters. In fact I am yet to hear anybody complaining about Bars radar, it was considered unmatched in the 2000s. Given...

Well, our enemies won't wait for us to acquire Tejas Mk1A/Mk2 as well but here we are, canceling MRCA and putting all our eggs into the HAL/ADAs basket. There is some decision that might give us short-term pain but long-term benefits. Long-term benefits include having perhaps one of the most...

Meteor on Mk1 with small Uttam Mk1 radar will be under-utilizing its range. Heck, even Astra Mk2 might to too much for Uttam Mk1 to guide at terminal ranges. Real beast will be Su-30MKI with upscaled Uttam (mk2 ?) which will be Su-35 with R-37s on Steroids.

It happens exactly like that. RCS of Tejas and Rafale are minuscule (< 1m2) compared to MKI. EW radars can pick them up from long range but won't be able to identify the number of bogies due to low-resolution factor, X-band or FCR is needed to differentiate between targets (MKI and...

Mig-21s, you can differentiate it from Tejas by the extended tail boom and presence of horizontal stabilisers.

@vidhwanshak kindly calm down. Tejas's squadron has not been moved to the frontline, however, temporary detachments have been stationed in northern and western sectors. As for why the whole squadron has not been moved yet, I remember someone answering that aptly, the reason is not that IAF...
