I wonder why K9 order was capped at 100. Does our ORBAT ascribe only a limited role for these systems- mostly in the deserts of Rajasthan/Gujarat?

100 K9 have been ordered and deliveries have begun. The wheeled SPH tender seems to be going nowhere though.

All said and done, without looking at pramaan, contextual observation is NOT Pratyaksha. If we are talking about claiming Pratyaksha, what is the probability that the 39mm Bofors barrel (incidentally the same dimensions as M777) has reported 40 incidents of the type that happened with Dhanush...

Actually this issue of the shell hitting the muzzle break has been reported for other guns as well including the Bofors guns and the Soltam 130mm that were upgraded to 155mm This report says as much...

I don't think Dhanush is going to morph into a ULH anytime soon. Kalyani already has a ULH development programme and their prototype is expected to be ready this year. If all goes well, this desi ULH could the future of our light artillery.

Of course, there's a need for mobile artillery and rocket launchers and SPH and MGS form an important element in this strategy. But there's only as much you can do about Towed guns like FH77, Dhanush and M777 if the aim is to fire and scoot to avoid triangulation by enemy WLRs and incoming fire...

I think I read somewhere that Nalanda factory is now equipped to produce ammunition as well as bimodular charges for all artillery guns

Doesn't ATAGS include elements from both? I assume that a lot of inputs from Bharat 52 would have flowed into ATAGS with Kalyani getting involved.

I wonder how the artillery will shape up once ATAGS finally matures as a platform. We'll have 414 Dhanush 45. It's expected that we'll go for 1000-1500 units of ATAGS (manufactured by Tata Power and Bharat Forge and probably OFB as well). We'll probably go for Kalyani's ULH when it happens...

So Mahindra will be getting all the tooling then? Either the assembly line or at least the blueprints being transferred to India? But then if I understand correctly, BAE will not be transferring the barrel technology to India because of US laws to that prohibit the transfer of the advanced...

I think BFs ULH is still under development. Their artillery page does not provide any details on the specifications etc. http://www.kalyanigroup.com/ArtillerySystems.asp There are a few reports that it is supposed to weigh less than 4500 kgs and make extensive use of Titanium and Aluminium...

I thought that M777 production line had closed, so how do we get 500 guns? I would rather we go for Bharat Forge's desi ULH for our additional needs.

No it's not. No idea if there are plans to acquire K10 at all. Apparently the idea was floated early on but Techwin turned it down.
