Any evidence for your argument? From NSTL website: "NSTL has taken up a two-pronged approach for development of a light weight anti submarine torpedo and a heavy weight wire guided torpedo Varunastra, Takshak, Thermal Torpedo that can be fired against a ship or submarine." Takshak is called a...

There were vigorous tests of Varunastra torpedo in 2015. MOD blacklisted the Italian supplier in July 2014, and logically should have worked out the impact. In my view a wire guided torpedo is more suitable for submarine launch. A ship may better use autonomous search torpedo as it may use its...

A heavyweight torpedo like the Varunastra is fired from a submarine or ship. “This torpedo is wire-guided. In other words, the guidance wire acts as a medium for communication of data between the torpedo and the firing platform (ship or submarine). The wire is also a medium to communicate data...

It is impossible as legal proceedings are going on in Italian courts. Indian investigative agencies are following the case, not leading. This will not get resolved for another five years at least.

Europe is sitting on verge of big political changes. Realignment of political forces always throws surprises. More surprises are in store. All the more reason to start paying more attention to local R&D.

It is unfortunate if India spent 3 billion us dollar on scorpene but cannot integrate its local torpedo with the boat. This must be a big procurement folly. Since Whitehead torpedo is the basis of India's own torpedo program, there is hope that such integration may not be too difficult...

Though unconfirmed, I have a feeling that this boat cannot head out to sea without its primary weapon - torpedo. It is clear that Black Shark torpedo has not been bought. This opens the possibility of boat carrying locally made heavy torpedo - varunastra. The same torpedo would have gone into...

I think there are two yards, so they can build two together. The second boat may be close to finish too. It may have moved out of assembly area. The last two may not have started building process. The news today says MOD is planning to give two unit extra orders. So we can safely say that...

Scorpene is a small boat designed for coastal defence. Our SSN program is in infancy and may not produce a boat for quite some time. The nuclear fuel availability is limited which means SSBN has priority over SSN. India needs large SSK boats with good range that can keep up with aircraft...

Lot of discussion about what Navy wants. Does anybody has any proof? Can somebody provide links to statement of officials, rfi etc? As far as I know, p75i will be high endurance boats, practically filling for roles an SsN does normally.

And I am sure they offered the upgrade for free? Lot of French lovers on this message board. Seems France has really "cultivated" right people. In an age where governments and companies pay posters on Internet for favorable posts, the drift is not hard to see.

The Project 75I-class submarines will have a vertical launch system(VLS) to enable them to carry multiple Brahmossupersonic cruise missiles, making the submarines fully capable of anti-surface and anti-ship warfare missions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_75I-class_submarine

I doubt govt. will renegotiate earlier contract. The best is to exercise options. A 9 ship class is a big enough class. No need to extend it further. MDL has no spare capacity to build more. A new shipyard (say L&T) does not stand to gain much from Scorpene as it already has accumulated much...

MDL will have 3 extra Scorpene (options). This will keep it busy for next 7-8 years. (to deliver 8 more). P75i must go to a private sector player. I think L&T has the right experience in sub building. Technically what is different between Arihant and SSK? Only the powerplant. We may want...

It could be an Indian design, incorporating Indian sub launched missiles. I think an Indian design gives more flexibility as the sub can be adapted for local cruise missile and possibly ballistic missile.

I think P75i are subs with DRDO developed aip. India would definitely want cruise missile firing capability in these subs probably longer range, than what is possible with brahmos.

I don't think so. It will only increase the cost further. The sub can run 4 days without aip and 3 weeks with aip underwater, as claimed by drdo. Advantage gained depends on tactical situation. As india has greater coast length and much larger resources, it may not make much difference.
