The pace of inductions is too slow. The deliveries are more important than ceremonies. We want to see steady deliveries like 2 per quarter to gain confidence in this program.

The interview is good and answers many questions. Still we must wait for official specs post FOC. Commenting on service life at this point is a highly misleading exercise.

There is nothing wrong in taking help. It is likely buying some components of Gripen and some consultancy.

Isn't Israeli Derby missile selected already? This integration may be part of 1a. I think first block of 20 aircrafts is built to IOC-2 standard. It may have only WVR missile. They are modifying one or more aircraft to 1a standard which should be used to prove additional capability.

@Chinmoy, it is not only me alone who have pointed the flaws in your posts. But you still continue on the same line. Your calculation of flight time is flawed. No aircraft flies with max thrust all the time. The flight time and fuel consumption of a fighter are highly variable and depend on...

Tejas is not designed to compete with Euro fighter. So the question does not arise. I feel it will be mostly used as an attack aircraft with su30 or mig29 in air superiority roles. The secondary role is air defence for less strategic areas where more capable fighters are not needed.

@Chinmoy you are reading some blog and reaching wrong conclusions. You keep on pressing your points despite not having good knowledge. Please lose your attitude. A practical modern fighter has life of 6000 hours or more. An aircraft can easily do 200 hours or more in one year.

HAL has a very risk averse culture. It is a hand me down company. It is afraid to use own grey cells. HAL will look for anything other than itself. No surprises here.

@Chinmoy, a fighter is expected to fly at least 200 hours per year. The life of LCA will not be less than 6000 hours. I doubt iaf will accept less than this. Your calculation of max military power for cruise may be incorrect. I think less power is needed to maintain speed, once cruise speed is...

My guess is design figure should be 6000h. We should know for sure when FOC documents come out.

The CAG does not say that aircraft life is 1000 hours. It only says that fatigue test is not performed, so aircraft usage is limited to 1000 hours as a precaution. This situation may be tolerable for test units. However this test may have been performed subsequent to this audit. It is needed...

I doubt LCA has a airframe life of 1000 hours. Never heard a CAG report mentioning such a lifespan. Test airframes may have been discarded after less use but that may have nothing to do with standardized production models. I think this 1000h is speculation.

I read that Russian predecessor of brahmos - yakhont has a range of 500km. Likely brahmos is range limited to 290km due to mtcr. I think it is the computer or autopilot that flies a cruise missile. The computer monitors all flight parameters and regulates the speed etc. Brahmos is a very good...

HAL has gone slow on Tejas for years. The same story is in helicopters where production never reaches the installed capacity. HAL is a story of inefficiency and wastage. HAL should show us what it means. I want to see 25 Tejas rolling out per year. Till then I am not ready to believe a word...

I think the current length is 13.2m which can become 14.7m. The additional volume will be for fuel and avionics. You can expect 3000kg aviation fuel. The combat range will go up with extra fuel and lower drag. A combat range of 500km is similar to Mig-29. So it should be adequate.

@Kharavela, just looking at IAF bases near to the border (like within 100km). You need high number + small aircraft that can fit into existing reinforced shelters + quick turnaround. A small aircraft needs less fuel and less weapons, and can be made ready quicker.

Yes. LCA should be deployed in Srinagar, Pathankot, Bhisiana, Jaisalmer etc. It's primary role will be air defence with WVR and BVR missiles. There is no way it can be refueled over there. LCA is optimal for around 10 squadrons in the West, which need quick reaction. Su-30 should be second line.

It is impossible to refuel a plane in forward areas in wartime. It is not refueling but sortie generation (maintainability) which is more critical. This number (14) does not look right somehow. Some of the Mig-21 squadrons have been (or will be) replaced by Su30. The rest should be replaced by...
