i was referring to the time between launches of consecutive aircraft using a ski jump vs a catapult. i'm no naval expert but common sense would dictate that the former would have a lower time interval between launches as it does not require recharging the system and calibration of power settings...

Sea Harriers didn't require a catapult. A ski jump based system also requires way lesser maintenance and can launch aircraft way more quickly than a catapult. hence the decision

The problem is, it is unpredictable how a conflict will unravel. having fixed bases reduces costs, but it also reduces flexibility of operations. a mobile asset will be much more effective in such uncertain scenarios. going by that logic, UK should have had airbases in south america too...

having worked in power plants before (though not nuclear ones), i can tell you this is not a quick process. the steam takes time to build up, and depending upon your operational requirements, that time may be too much or sufficient. a battery bank on the other hand, will provide instant energy...
