INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

i was referring to the time between launches of consecutive aircraft using a ski jump vs a catapult. i'm no naval expert but common sense would dictate that the former would have a lower time interval between launches as it does not require recharging the system and calibration of power settings...

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

Sea Harriers didn't require a catapult. A ski jump based system also requires way lesser maintenance and can launch aircraft way more quickly than a catapult. hence the decision

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

yes. because your wisdom supersedes all! and haven't you read my posts with examples and rationale earlier? look, i'll break it down into simple language for you: submarines good. destroyers & frigates very good. carriers very very good. CBG (with total defensive and offensive components) very...

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

The problem is, it is unpredictable how a conflict will unravel. having fixed bases reduces costs, but it also reduces flexibility of operations. a mobile asset will be much more effective in such uncertain scenarios. going by that logic, UK should have had airbases in south america too...

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

bhailogs @Gessler and @Superdefender let's put the discussion of the still-in-design stage AMCA to a different thread and get back to the still-in-design Vishal, whatsay?

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

i'd said this earlier too, Tejas Mk1 to poora theek se aaya hai nahi abhi, Mk2 to bohot door hai. aur AMCA ke sapne kyun dekh rahe hain hum? ab uske upar N-AMCA ki baat to mat hi karo yaar!

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

Not really a white elephant. If we were to go by that logic, INS Vikrant (the old one) should never have been purchased, and we'd not be able to stifle east pakistan as quickly during the 71 war. Naval power projection is meant to serve the nation's interests in far off areas, and that can...

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

why does the use of EMALS require AAG if the aircraft is the same? or am i missing something here? how much energy would a steam catapult require for the same amount of power imparted by 60 MW of EMALS launch?

INS Vishal (IAC- II) Aircraft Carrier - Flattop or Ski Jump

having worked in power plants before (though not nuclear ones), i can tell you this is not a quick process. the steam takes time to build up, and depending upon your operational requirements, that time may be too much or sufficient. a battery bank on the other hand, will provide instant energy...
