Should be in the works. The target is 2016. May be some Israeli help on it. But one thing is certain that the author has made mistake in writing that the missile will be intercepted 5000kms away. Phew!! We don't have a ballistic missile that flies that far yet!!

I think what's really going on is interception of missiles launched 5000kms away tracked and then brought down just before it enters indian air space.

Well we value lives here. So any loss of life here will be considered a lot of destruction.

Thats the re-entry vehicle that you are talking about. I was talking about ballistic missile itself. Besides our immediate concern is Pakistan which does not have MIRV. So a good ABM system will take care of the threat from the west.

Yes Mirvs were designed to beat the ABMs. But again it's not an evasive maneuver by the missile itself. Ballistic missiles don't have any maneuvering capability. That's why they are called ballistic.

To have a good missile defense system, we also need to get good satellite recon as well. India has to put more of those up there. They are vital to give clues about missiles being fueled. That itself can give us the option to launch a pre-emptive strike to take those missiles out. Besides that...

There is no scope to maneuver a ballistic missile. It cannot evade. Usually decoys are used to divert ABMs.
