New Assault Rifles for Indian Army

The popular term is "wetwork" I believe. Proven platforms like Val/Vintorez/Vykhlops are probably better suited for serious wetwork.

True, but so does the SA-80. Scar and 416/417 are relatively premium stuff, so they are expected to not spare any expenses, plus their manufacturers also have decades of experience with firearms manufacturing. IIRC scar uses a David Marshall Williams type gas tappet, without any return spring of...

@Johny_Baba what's your opinion on short stroke pistons overall ? Generally people argue that the reduced mass makes for a lightweight weapon with more accurate automatic fire, but also lowers the extraction reliability over a long period of usage. Seeing as how the Tavor 7 eschews AK derived...

What about flapper locking ? The bolt doesn't have to rotate there, and a FAMAS like arrangement is possible maybe. Replacing the flappers with locking rollers like in MG-42 can also be considered in this family, and MG-42 is essentially unchanged since WW2, in it's MG3 avatar. Tilting bolts...

Maybe a Patreon supporter of Ian from Forgotten weapons can submit this question about configurable ejection direction, to be answered in a Q&A video.

I'm not sure if this is probable or not, but a M16 type bolt in a rifle with ejection ports cut on both left and right side could work. I had the thought of what if the hole is a through hole, and to change the direction of the ejection, the shooter disassembles the bolt, takes out the cam...

New Assault Rifles for Indian Army

@Johny_Baba excellent info and details. I'd just like to add that seems to me, with a fairly long receiver, where the ejection port is not just in front of the shooter's face, and with a shell deflector hump, lefty shooters can manage right side ejection. Ofcourse blowback type repeating actions...

New Assault Rifles for Indian Army

This is the bolt for FAMAS As seen here, it has 2 cutouts for the extractor claw, and the ejector plunger in at the bottom. Here the bolt is configured for right side ejection, since the darker colored ejector is on the left of this picture and the lighter colored part is simply a plug. To...

Good point. Goes all the way back to the days of Whitworths and Martini-Henrys

I'm pretty sure FN, CZ, Izmash or Springfield Arsenal all have some internal museum filled to the brim with trials rifles or different designs that were never adopted. Would be a real privilege to be allowed to visit them.

New Assault Rifles for Indian Army

The mindset or culture thing is a whole different can of worms, so not touching it. But making a reliable and effective rifle is no child's play. Look at the SA80 program. On paper the L85A1 was a potent rifle with proven internals, look what happened.

.338 Lapua seems like the best choice for extended range shooting. Combine that with a quality bolt gun like the AWP or atleast the SV-98, train dedicated Shooter/Spotter teams in sniper schools, and not just DMR operator in squad, and that is a winning combination.

Stoner 63 is a modular platform, so why didn't it get popular outside the Special Operations circle ?
