HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)

MTOW will mostly be determined at sea level (highest thrust available) flying to some 'reasonable' height. Most operations happen at least at about 3000 ft. Even if you discount the above the payload is just about 800 kgs (but it is actually lower than that: between 600-700 kgs depending on the...

HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)

Info available from LUH specs: Empty weight: 1,910[7] kg (4,211 lb) Max takeoff weight: 3,150[7] kg (6,945 lb) Fuel consumption: 0.69 kg/km (2.4 lb/mi) Range: 350 km (217 mi; 189 nmi) Calculate derivative values: Fuel capacity = 350x0.69 = 241.5 kgs Loaded weight (empty +fuel) = 1,910 +...

Yep. A Fire Control Radar would be great on LCH/Rudra!!

I think Modi uses these bones to keep the big dogs happy!! In international diplomacy, goodwill/favors are bought and sold!! The 36 Rafale deal with France also seemed like a way to get France's attention on India's concerns on terror etc. (One might argue if Modi hadn't France would have seen...

HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)

As I explained in the subsequent post, LUH will need to have the capability to roll-on/roll-off things as per mission requirements. Rudra with some armor upgrade will be good for SF ops!

HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)

I feel that if they can fit the weapons boom, an EO pod and base plate for gun turret on most LUHs (a penalty of less than 100 kgs), then it would leave the option to put-on/take-off rocket pods and put-on/take-off the gun. EO pod of course should always remain, which will be useful for night...

HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)

Sure. LUH can carry a payload of aroudn 600-700 kgs. So if you allocate 100 kgs to the 12.7 gun+turret+ammo, 50kgs for EO pod, another 150 kg each for each rocket pod (maybe lighter if smaller rockets are chosen), then you're left with probably 300-350 kgs. That could leave enough power to...

HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Light Observation Helicopter (LOH)

It'll have a smaller gun (12.7mm vs 20mm on Rudra/LCH). With 2 rocket pylons and possibly ATGMs etc, there won't be any power left to carry any (SF) troops with a full armament load!! It could look like the Little Bird at some point!!! Lots of fun things ahead :-)

Rudra with a little bit of (dyneema) armor would be a great chopper for SF! Maybe the HTSE-1200 engines to add more muscle (when those engines get ready!!)
