Akash 1s is a very commensensical approach!! I am presuming that they would retrofit the missiles in the field with the seeker.

I think they were toying with the idea of putting a seeker on the missile ever since they thought of increasing the range. TVC sounds new though - this might change the flight dynamics quite distinctly!

The task of converting Astra into a short range (probably also quick reaction) SAM doesn't sound that difficult or daunting if you consider that all initial tests of Astra (before aerial tests were initiated) were actually tested as a SAM - launched from ground in almost vertical orientation!
