Well it is basic physics...Delta wing has large surface areas. By adding TVC you are going to have an instantaneous turn rate so high that there will be huge loss of speed (energy) in an aircraft. Due to the larger surface area of the wing and a sudden change in direction puts a lot of pressure...

Well fitting a TVC to an aircraft like LCA which is delta winged will induce a huge drag in turning fights. Energy management is the key in a turning fight.

So how are those GE 414 test engines performing in India? Any idea people? Heard that they have a few quality issues to be sorted out?

The GE 404 and 414 were designed ground up for operations in the marine environment. This was one of the major selling points and the reason we chose the 414 over the EJ 200. You dont need to worry about it. The 404 powered the F 18s till the C/D versions and the E/F was powered by the 414

Sir but the F 414 INS6 is still not ready and how can we already know about the SFC? It is not available in the public domain also. Additional fuel means additional weight during take off

Sir with the increase in thrust there will be increase in specific fuel usage also. Wouldnt it be a burden on the already small range of the LCA?

Sir, The Russians had the AL 41 in the early 90s itseld with a 180 Kn thrust. I have seen that engine being fired in the Saturn plant. There were a few glitches but Saturn stopped that project to funt the 117s as the Russians were not funding much in early 2000 and late 90s. The pace picked up...

Yes it is going to draw more attention but adding external payload is going to spike the RCS manifold and I think you know what I am talking about...a 1m^2 RCS is going to increase to atleast 3-4m^2 RCS which is going to negate all the advantage wven if it is going to fly low. and our opponents...

Well thhe GE Engine program has 2 modification programs for the GE-414 engines one is the GE 414 EPE and the other is the GE 414 EDE engines. The GE 414 INS6 is more like a compromise between the 2. This prompted the USN to go for the same engine for the re-engine program of the F 18 Super Hornet.

Why would DRDO sign a contract with the GE musn't it be the HAL?
