@Project Dharma I think the reason for lib. Gun ownership in the us is they had to expand West and exterminate native Americans who they viewed as an existential threat. Liberal gun ownership was the norm in the whole of Americas.

I doubt this because the Russians don't like to turn American general public opinion against them, more than it already is. Besides if the Russians wanted to one up the American establishment they would not have gone for public, because a few dead civilians ain't a big problem for the top dogs...
