Nice.... Will it be operational by 2020? and any updates in IAC2?

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

That's true .... But that is because it was under repair when the war broke off.... The vessels then we're not good to tackle all threats.... When you have the info that ur enemy is suicidal and coming after ur greatest asset the best thing is to save it. Times have changed everything has...

Can you plz elaborate and explain.....

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

You are right and wrong at the same time. Once the construction is complete then only sea trials start. During sea trial faults and issues are detected which are dealt in next upgrade or repair. Normally some weapons are not installed to have that upgrade a little early....

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Theirs? Who? We have a long coastline .... We have a lot of interest in the seas.... What do you think? How many Aircraft Carriers India needs? How many Nuclear? This is what I think.. I m repeating sorry. We need 4 A/C carriers .... 3 conventional 1 nuclear. Refit repair counted. This will...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Yes we need ships to protect it..... It acts like a mother ship.... Those smaller ships are supported by the AC. Though as it's an complete weapon it can sail alone....it can withstand any threat on it own. Nuclear has great advantages.... We need one. Ability to launch multiple aircrafts is...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

That's what i said at the very beginning.1 Nuclear and 3 Conventional AC.

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Thanks for the info :P What are you referring here ? You are comparing Apples with Oranges? How can they be an alternative to an AC. Are you implying that we must build or acquire smaller vessels and not AC? These are 16000 tonnes where as we are talking about AC which are more than 40000...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

"we have an American LPD in service" ????what are you referring here? I will say we can go for another Vikrant Class AC.

I could not find any information in reference to this.

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Why one nuclear? With Nuclear you get large number of benefits. Its like having a conventional Sub on one side and nuclear sub on another. At the time of war a nuclear powered AC will have the obvious advantages. No need to refill, unlimited Range etc. No currently India is not planning to send...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Not sure of it being large enough to operate Tejas N. Let the Tejas N be finalized first. Why are you leaning towards Juan Carlos Class here? I will like to have another 40,000 metric tons ship.

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

In terms of AC I was hoping they build the same class AC which we are currently building. This will save alot of time in terms of design and issue resolution ,procurement of material etc. Its a huge body therefore it is true that it will not be same but identical is possible . This way we can...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

That's is really a difficult timeline. I was hoping 4 AC by the end of 2030 and not 2040. The more the merrier is not true in the case of AC building cost is alot but maintenance cost is way higher .... With the budget allocated to defense it wont be possible to maintain maore than 4 AC. Again...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Aircraft Carriers have there own Pros and cons. India needs 3-4 Aircraft carriers and at least 1 of them must be Nuclear and remaining 3 conventional. Its more expensive to Build nuclear AC than the conventional so we can go for more conventional ones than Nuclear. There cost gets compensated...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

This is a similar depiction of one i had seen earlier ... so more or less yes on the same lines.

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

We never had that fear, we have been operating A/C carriers for decades. Our IAC-2 given the current Navy approach will most probably be nuclear powered. Though given the cost of nuclear powered as compared to conventional and tech expertise required I would have liked to see one more...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

Really a nice post . I am no expert but in one of the videos on Youtube (will try and look for it) they explained how a missile can be a a/c carrier killer there is weak spot or one can say that the design or structural flaw which is mostly at the center . The only way to sink the aircraft...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

sorry could nt find any definate source which states that ... but there is a very high probability that it will be capable to operating naval strike helicopters because i dont know of any reasons why it cannot or why it should not.... @abhi_the _gr8_maratha @ersakthivel any information you...
