I've never said anything to the contrary; we all know we need more fighters. But even with what we have on hand (not to mention several other factors like ADS, tactics, various real-world factors like climate/geography/other countries etc) - we'll deal with 'em.

There's no way we stop at 36 Rafales; and you've strangely cherry-picked just those 36 out of the entire fleet where most, if not all, fighters that are going to go up against China or Pak will have either the 100 KM Astra Mk1 (which will be improved) or the 110 KM Russian BVR ordered...

Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

Recently saw a post that Russian BVR's w/ a range of 110 KM have been integrated on the Su-30 MKI's now (probably ordered right after that dogfight). When you combine this with Astra integration on much of the fleet in coming years - we should have a serious edge once more in BVR combat (and...

I don't get it, why are we looking at buying all sorts of platforms, but when it comes to tankers we suddenly become poor and just want to lease? Kind of odd. Regardless, glad we'll get tankers - one way or the other.

Holy Shit, once even LCA's can carry 2 Brahmos it's gonna be absolutely insane

How exactly does the range of the Netra compare to the Phalcon AWACS? What would be the ideal number of acquisitions for both platforms? And how many tankers should we *ideally* have?

If the terms are favorable, absolutely. We need the planes for sure, but these are ultimately 2nd hand so don't overpay for them. Beyond a certain price, it would just be better to build more LCA's.

I seriously think that as part of increasing aircraft numbers, and freeing up better assets for more important missions, India should really look into taking the BAE Hawk - giving it a good ground attack loadout + making it more survivable, and mainly using that for CAS, along with Jaguars...

We have also yet to take stock of various miscellaneous factors: > India seriously upgrading AD systems (espc. the effects of a few regiments of S400's on the Western border) > The destructive potential of the Brahmos > Number of, and locations of PAF bases (very close to border) > Pakistan...

So basically 86 MiG 29 UPG's (after the final order of airframes is upgraded and delivered) + 36 MiG 29K's from Navy + 49 Mirage 2000's = 171 fighters against 186 relatively advanced fighters from PAF (76 F-16's - not all of them upgraded or in flying condition, 110 JF-17 Thunders). Add in any...

Chalta Hai mentality isn't good, but 1962 will never happen again. I can say that without a single doubt in my mind.

Best of luck to them. If you know this, I'm sure the Army is cognizant and quietly working on strategies to counter this. As for bombers with standoff capabilities - between Sukhois w/ AWACS killers and the S400 system - let's see how useful those prove to be.

The article is clear - we have a serious edge on defense as well. Whether it's the ability to destroy their logistics (they will heavily rely on transport of hardware and troops to the border), ability to easily withstand their attempts to saturate our airfields with ballistic missiles, ability...

We desperately need to start mass producing LCA MK1A's on an industrial scale. It's the solution to a lot of our problems, whether it's CAP/Interception & Point Defense/CAS - the Tejas can do it all. A large scale MII deal for Rafales (IAF + IN combined order achieving Economies of Scale) is...
