India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

The deals with Russia generally involves ToT. Russia doesn't set up manufacturing units in India, it does provide license for manufacturing in India. The deals are not off the shelf. It is just that Russia does not set up companies outside Russia as the concept of private companies isn't...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

Offsets don't apply to Russia. It only applies to others. Most of Indian system is based on Russian technology base itself. Though many of the technology in India is developed by Indians, the base is still Russian technology reverse engineering.

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

I do have a strong belief that Akash has range of 70km as its weight of 750kg justifies a similar range. The fact that it is a ramjet rather than rocket motor also helps in increasing the range. Even Patriot-1 missile with rocket motor has 70km range for same weight as Akash missile.

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

These MANPADS as the word ''man" suggest, is manportable. CLGM is indeed a good VSHORAD missile. Even in MPATGM like Javelin, there is anti-air ability The only problem with CLGM is it is too heavy to be carried by people and with MPATGM like Javelin is that the range is too less as the missile...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

Is there a reason that India can make NAG missile and derive MPATGM from it but is not capable of building a MANPADS? It is easier to detect a flying object as there is very little noise like trees, bushes, trench, mountain etc in the air, unlike detection of ground target. So, it must be easier...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

Akash will be deployed across the border. It is not that India only bothers about airbase while having complete disregard for other places like manufacturing units in cities, food storage etc. Why be short sighted and speak of squadrons, regiments instead of making a wholesale coverage across...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

SAM is meant for taking out surprise attacks. So, if the first attack of Pakistan is to attack tye SAM battery, then that itself is a win. Immediately after the SAM is hit, India will be alerted and launch hundreds of missiles, both ballistic and cruise missiles to attack Pakistan completely...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

Akash will be kept about 30km from the border, not reachable by enemy artillery. 30km distance is because Akash has the no escape zone of 30km. Since the intention is to defend against instrusion, Akash at 30km from border will be able to kill any plane that enters the Indian border. We can't...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

Technically SAMS are missiles but in real world, missiles are used instead of automated guns. Automated guns to defend against missiles are used in certain naval ships - CIWS like Ak630. But, in land they are not really effective. Ships have space constraint and are also mobile which makes them...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

Automated Air defence gun is called SAMs. The air defence gun is manually operated as it is a secondary defence after SAM. Akash SAM has a near 100% hit with the new seekers within 30km. If the Akash is kept near the border, then an impenetrable air defence can be established on Indian airspace...

India's Air Defense System and its Capabilities

C-RAM is something like Iron dome of Israel. Why would you want India to get that? It is impossible to counter every rocket or artillery shell fired in large quantity. India can use weapons location radar and then target the location of weapons instead of using extremely expensive CRAM. It is...
