    This was meant to happen no doubt about that. Amount of steel and diameter of the suspender cables should be more on Cable Suspended Bridges as the tension forces are more at the centre. SIT also has to find out the flaws in the construction.

    Yes, what I meant was this may be the reason behind the collapse on that fateful day. Vigorous shaking of the bridge's suspension cables by the dimwits were always present from the start and this may have led to the said Physical phenomenas leading to the collapse.

    Mechanical Resonance, Structural Vibration along with exceeding maximum capacity of public on the bridge might have led to the bridge collapse. Don't know about the wind speed prevailing at that moment though, it can be a factor too, as moderate wind speed produces Aerostatic Flutter.
