Too much pressure from US State Dept. India should always keep it doors open for Myanmar, whether it is Military Junta or Civilian govt running the country. Under pressure from US only we are not engaging with Myanmar after the military takeover of the country. So advantage is China.

If GoI was smart enough than they would have leveraged it in terms of military projection and national security in the IOR with respect to China, but alas! Soft Power should be backed up by Hard Power, but again we are too Softies and Vision-Impaired.

India is one of the Two top sources of imports for Sri Lanka. There is a huge asymmetry in trade with India, with this agreement it will only grow bigger.

They have no choice now as their economy is under massive contraction. India will have some control on their economy with this agreement.
