The comparison with Su-30MKI is not done in an apples-apples comparison. Su-30MKI engine has less than 2000 hrs lifetime (sometimes lasting only 1000 hrs), whereas Tejas Mk1A engine (F404) has 4000+ hours of lifetime.

There's already a lot of 'autonomy' built into Tejas - even today the pilot has set the bearing, altitude, speed etc and then take a nap....the auto-pilot will maintain the flight independently. Building more autonomy via waypoints and some 'decision trees' is not that difficult.

I have never seen any indication that an ejection seat is under development.....not even in the roadmap for the next 10 years. It appears routine to assert that everything under the sun in ‘under development’ in India

LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

Yes, that's the idea.......ASRAAM as the defacto short-range AAM on Su-30MKI, Tejas etc. But it's not a done deal at this point. The requirement is that the production facility move to India.

ASRAAM is one of the best short range AAMs in the world (even F35s carry ASRAAM).

About 5% decrease in cost......................will also come at a 5 year delay in production!!! Assembly plant for 83 engines?? Ridiculous! Also, these are not decisions that desi babus can make....GE has to agree to it.......not to mention the time it takes to set up the manufacturing...

The designed MTOW is not just for thrust but also depends on the airframe rigidity. Also, Tejas Mk1/Mk1A is known to have unnecessary aerodynamic drag.

Very visible difference is that Naval LCA's landing gear is bigger, taller and outwards. Internally the Naval airframe is made much stronger. Am sure there're other differences too....that I can't roll off right now

Biggest advantage Astra has over Derby is the mid-course update capability.........really important for long range engagement especially against a maneuvering target.

Imagine the vibrations that the opposing winds would set in the barrel! What accuracy would you expect out of it?? The alternate would be to provide a large cowling that can accomodate the barrel turns......but then it would induce a lot of drag. I guess they just left it to he pilot to turn...

Can't at the speeds fighter jets travel. If you swivel the gun, the wind could just shear it off - at least after repeated use.
