It's rare for Indian orgs to achieve the parameters that they initially set out to achieve. I've read it's tested for 'full' thrust.........but I don't remember reading the exact number for the thrust achieved.

I think they placed a small order to overcome immediate shortfall.......but don't intend to keep that as the mainstay for Su-30MKI for long.....hence the desire to integrate Astra as replacement and possibly something like Meteor as an upgraded version.

R77s have been the standard fitment for Su-30MKI since procurement. They were fitted onto Mig-21s too. But IAF has no faith in R77s...they are looking to replace it.

Well 'upgrade' is very loaded term. Personally, I think engine upgrade is not that significant (as current engines are quite powerful in themselves), but an AESA radar will definitely help in changing the role of the aircraft - giving more ground scanning capability along with an ability to fly...
