It's not a radar of the type inside Su-30MKI; what's required is a very short range radar (around 10-15kms)....which will be very light.

I've no idea what you're trying to convey here...........

Do you have a sensible question to ask? Escort helos identify and neutralize ground/air based threats! Obviously nothing is completely 'adequate', but given the speed and flight envelope of a transport helo, an attack helo provides a decent level of protection.

IAF will continue to operate large transport helicopters.....combat/attack helicopters will be required as a escort to these helos (at the least)

As I had deduced earlier: only LOBL on Helina missile have been successful (upto 7 kms range). LOAL - which actually gives it the full 8 kms range has still not been successfully tested!

IMRH will have a Naval version (ship based). Navy doesn't need LCH.

I think the pods and rockets are going to change in due course.

Probably the two pilots are on a weight loss program - in one year each will lose 10kgs :-)

Was waiting for this interview to be released! Interesting points: - The tails of both LCH & ALH have fins that can be activated (for safe landing) if the tail rotor goes kaput! This is very interesting! Because most RPG attacks that clip the tail rotor eventually makes the helo spin out of...

It's quite possible that the IOC version of LCH (of which only 15 are being inducted) is not defined for ATGM inclusion! Also, RWR, MAWS etc still need to be fitted on LCH - perhaps for FOC!

Read the FULL article. No mention of ATGM in 'Other weapons' description!

Dude! You should know me by now that I would know the difference between Mistral and an ATGM! You keep defining mundane things to me for some weird reason! Read the FULL article. No mention of ATGM in 'Other weapons' description!

Interesting, that there's no mention of Helina !!!

@vishnugupt HAL only did the design of LCH airframe & power; the weaponization of LCH is the responsibility of DRDO - which for some reason is taking its own sweet time!!! I don't think I've seen an LCH with RWR/MAWS fitted as yet!

Not sure if the new seeker helps in that regard, but with earlier seeker (low resolution) it wasn't LOBL at 8kms - and hence the data-link & LOAL. Point to note is that on the first day of the recent Helina trials, they said it was tested to 'full range' even though it was only tested for 5kms...

HAHA. Don't forget that fire-and-don't-forget capability (LOAL) was added on AFTER the fire-and-forget (LOBL) capability was achieved!!
  17. E

HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

Are you sure about this? I thought the whole idea of adding data-link/LOAL was in order to extend the range from 4kms to 8 kms.

HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

There're several misleading articles on this Helina test, where they say that the missile was tested to its 'maximum range'. I read in an article (can't remember where at the top of my head), that it's actually the maximum range for LOBL - which is 5 kms! The full range of 8 kms will be tested...

Comms are not the only equipment of discussion. Premium dollars are being paid for Longbow radar etc - the issue is if information gleaned from such surveillance can be seamlessly shared with ground control & other helos (without the pilot having to 'say' it out on the radio!) !

Without COMCASA, Apaches will not be equipped with highly ‘encrypted’ devices in the first place!! They’ll come with regular ‘encryption’ - hopefully interoperable with other Indian devices.
