Noice... I think they have missed on Kalaikunda... they havea MiG21 squadron (nor sure if its active anymore), 1 Sukhoi sqn. (with responsibilities in Andaman region, and I've heard that FOC version Tejas sqn. will be based from here..

F16 is a very good fighter, but its no way better than Rafale. I doubt if upgraded F16 (whatever that would be) will match up to the beast that is Rafale F4. Furthermore, since IAFis already buying Rafales, they dont have money to maintain 2 different 4.5 gen M-MRCAs.

If I'm not wrong, the first tranche of Rafale deal included developmental costs of integration of specific enhancements, such as software & datalink upgrades, development of SOPs etc. In second tranche, these costs do not arise, which is why the deal is cheaper. It still beats me how Tejas is an L-MRCA with weight of 13,300kg.. for comparison, Mig-21 is 8,800 kg, and Saab Gripen, which is considered a proper M-MRCA is 14,000kg. I think it's high time we start considering Tejas as proper M-MRCA rather than Mig-21 replacement.

Most likely because they are expensive to maintain, since they are H-MRCA. Buying addl. flankers will put more stress on IAF's budget.

right now iaf has following major acquisitions in its plate: -Rafale acquisition -Super sukhoi upgrade -LCA Mk1a & MK2 development -114 MRCA acquisition If IAF were to go ahead with Pakfa program, they will have to sacrifice one of the above.. in my opinion they did not have extra money to add...

These were ordered under emergency purchase arrangement. A lot of weapon purchases seems to be undertaken with this arrangement nowadays. While it's great that services are able to bypass those pesky MoD bureaucrats, I hope it doesn't compromise compatibility of weapons and weapon systems.
