Mig-29K max speed is around 1.7 mach. But the real downside of it is that it can't operate with maximum payload from deck. So speed wise the performance of TEDBF and Mig-29K would be same. The point remains to be seen is at the payload with which TEDBF could operate from deck. From the initial...

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

1.6 mach is low? Foxbat was able to fly at 2.5 Mach. But for that it has to achieve its maximum altitude of 68000 feet. There too if it sustains the high Mach, it has to undergo massive overhauling of its engine and fuselage. So practically it has to cruise at lower speed. Look at the maximum...

Problem with Indian coverup is that, INDIA SIMPLY CAN'T COVER UP at this time if such an incident took place. In this election season our media and political parties are so pumped up that any such news means a big dent in the image of current government who have used armed forces as lynchpin in...

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

IN has been looking forward for upgraded Mig29 along with Rafales as a possibility. Moreover 3 AC are not a matter of choice, but compulsion for India. One of these three would always be in a retrofitting stage and the other two in active patrolling on two front.

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

IN had already said that they are not interested in Nuke Carrier as of now. Its only three conventional carrier for us. And moreover carriers are to project power and area dominance. Nuke Subs can't replace them. They are more of offensive weapon whereas Carriers are defensive as well as...

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

Its not just about cannisterization. You have to also look at number of missiles you could deploy on one. Due to its difference in maneuverability in respect to any land based system, you need larger number of defensive missiles on a ship. For that weight of a missile matters.

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

Technically no............. QR-SAM is heavier then BARAK-1. So in its current form it is not fit for a ship based system just like Akash.

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

Actually I am not even talking about converting from STOBAR to CATOBAR. A CATOBAR equipped ship would obviously be too heavy then any of the current class of ships India operate and transformation would be too costly. Moreover its a time taking process.

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

Novel idea for 1 ton drones, but not quiet effective for 6 ton fighters. JATO or RATO has more safety related threat then its usefulness.

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

When and where I said anything about Vikrant or Vikramaditya? All I am saying about is CATOBAR and STOBAR.

Even one catapult design would mean redesigning and new architecture for the whole platform. I am just wondering on something of Ramp assisted takeoff for heavy planes.

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

Then could a longer ramp help us in launching more heavier aircraft?

INS Vikramaditya (Adm Gorshkov) aircraft carrier

Just one thought.......... In a CATOBAR setup, planes are generally hold up by the catapult prior to launch and its engine goes into after burner to give it pre-launch thrust. Then the catapult merely throws the aircraft off the carrier in immense speed and due to its engagement of after burner...
