Mark2 a quite close actually, Mark1 might end up as a tech demo.. with bulk orders of Mark 2. Especially know that the new Mark 2 model is basically enhanced Mark 1 with fatter mid-body, with the older configuration set aside...

    You got my point...

Only on paper. R-77 has an official max. range of 100km, but in practice has less NEZ than Derby or Mica... As was proved recently.

Chill bro, don't ruin the mood now! More good stuff will be dropped soon.

No shot, I said it as a cost comparison. You can rest easy. Noone to fight here.

    Astra BVRAAM

Possible. Immovable fins allow harder turning.

    Astra BVRAAM

Correct. Plus smokeless & low IR. These stuff bring up the price. But we can expect some reduction once its fully adopted & maintenance, storage facility etc. are properly set up.

Refer to other BVR missiles sales some the world. Japan & Australia bought Aim-120C7 for $2.3 million each. Astra ₹7.5 crores convert to $1mil... Derby & R77 stock models are cheaper. Tejas carrying 6-meteors will cost as much as 2 Tejas!

An initial batch of 248 Mark1... More will be acquired as it gets integrated to other jets.

Watch this. Will help realise my concerns... Note the relative speed & distances.

But do you actually know that, or just assuming?.. I've come across several cases from '60s-'70s even where debris from the shot down jet damaged the shooter. Tejas has minimum turning radius of 350m, F-16 has 300m. So two of them scissoring each other at hard turns trying to get the other to...

    Max range is great! Most IRST AAMs can operate as both upto 40-45km away. But 500m lowest may be problematic... That make any maneuvering enemy jet within 200-300m completely safe as long as it can stay out of direct gun-sight (not for TVC jets like Su-30 tho but like this);

Except they DID say that (from your track record I assume you don't know the difference between decade old AIM-120C and C5 either). Except noone owes you anything. I had some doubts and asked a question just above. That is one thing. But noone will go through whole thread to dig out info just...

@IndianHawk yes go do research, give him all the proof or links he wants. You are talking tech. And tech wise, Tejas is leaps and bounds ahead of 10 year old F-15 or Su-30s. That's how electronics/software works. And someone who think we don't have access to Aim-120C from youknowwho, also...

    Astra BVRAAM

No I meant the BVRs have several times higher speed -_- The basic tactics to avoid BVRs (without EW) are based on the fact that they track the lead of the jet, thus to turn in manner that the BPR miscalculates. Once it does, it cannot correct itself anymore because of its extremely high speed...

    Astra BVRAAM

Every BVR has several times higher G-limit than any jet... They still can be avoided by correct manoeuvres because of their several times higher speed. Whatever it is, all on papers right now. Nothing is confirmed. Anyways suit yourself. You could be right too.

That ain't mean shit. Our test vehicles are bullshit. Consider the 10G capable unmanned QF-16 drone, a hollow f-16 shell, for testing & training both. Testing against that would give meaningful estimation of the BVR's capabilities. What India tests against on the other hand is only 3G capable...

I knew about Astra's lock-on-before-launch and lock-on-after-launch, mid-course-correction features. But I donot know enough on these systems to have detucted if it could be fired WVR. Sometimes it is better to ask someone who knows. I'm saying without its own seeker though... Below 13km range...
