Indian Army BMP 2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle Sarath

These are all FICV Tech... They're just going down to BMP-2. Only if T-90s were taken care of such

That's comparable to Tejas Mark1 & MWF, a platform based on an older predessor. The above one is an upgrade.

We don't need the LAVs... I was only curious about the RCWS. With ATGM in the launchers, it would be a good turret.

Indian Army BMP 2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle Sarath

Any idea what's this 30mm RCWS turret with ATGM & EW jammer?

Indian Army BMP 2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle Sarath

Any reason to think so other than it being Russian? Any evidence backing up this unconfirmed, unofficial claim? I like how they don't give a shit anymore... They tried doing it your way with Tarmour & light tank initiatives. What's did that get them?

IA not interested in that sort. Once tried with T-55... T-72 chassis modified APC also exist.

That's exactly why I like the FICV while most here have been whining out doesn't look cool enough... with add-on modular armour. A carry-forward of the BMP design with significant armour & mobility increment, back ramp, possibly unmanned turret later on.

Same logic goes for literally any armoured vehicle. Why not instead of "expensive & fancy" modern FICV, get just 7.62-protected APCs that we can even more cheaply buy 10,000 of? Point is, present that tech allows a modern IFV to protect its passenger from expected autocannons/HMG fire & IED...

Some composite sandwiches can stop 57mm without to much weight increment. Design has been moving on to kevlar airbags now... As long as it remains below 25t it can safely float.

But still BMP-2 are the lowest of the low compared to others... Protection against 57mm at front & 30mm helo auto-cannons on roof, with some slat/skirts at sides isn't too much to ask for surely? With some floating tubes it'll still be amphibious too.

No no... CVRDE is involved with Arjun Mark2 only. I meant the tech development is probably by DRDO. OFB doesn't have R&D capacity to increase frontal protection by 2 STANAG levels! Details are not available bro. But i have not heard of any DRDO prototype. Like Arjun with DRDO & CVRDE, this should be a joint effort too. But i don't have details. I may be wrong.

I addressed this... Abhay 1 ke initial prototype dekhe ho? Final product will be different. I don't know if there will be unmanned turret or not (it should), but final hull should look somewhat like Sprut-SD or BMP-3. They were lookinh into 57mm auto-cannon turret. When the 1st prototype...

Indian Army BMP 2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle Sarath

I learnt that only 800 BMPs are being upgraded because the FICV prototype is doing exceptionally well in trials... Massive commonality with BMP-2. So the platform is here to stay. Older ones will be mothballed or transferred.

We need than to float & run by a 500hp engine. Immunity against anti-material rifles is where the line is drawn on case of India. "Enough" protection would make it 60+ ton like Israeli Namer. A 35 ton vehicle is just as vulnerable to ATGM or shells as the 20 ton one... That issue can only be...

Indian Army BMP 2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle Sarath

They won't be replaced overnight, even if FICV is here by 2020. Last year MOD cleared a $170 million purchase for 149 upgraded BMP-2, to be made by OFB Medak. This in addition to its plans to upgrade its entire BMPh2/2K fleet of 980 Sarath & 125 BMP-2K c&c vehicle. Both public & private sectors...
