    Is it CATOBAR powered or STOVOL? I would go for CATOBAR steam powered in any case. Forget that EMALs. Not worth the cost right now.

    If we are going to go for another IAC-1 type then order at least 2 more. That way we will have 3 carriers in 10 years time while the design for IAC-2 continues to mature.

    Can't be a CATOBAR because it would require significant modifications and result in multiyear delays. It will be STOBAR but they should increase the tonnage to 55K and increase the length of the deck to allow for up to 44 planes and helicopters.

    Yeah IN is going full speed on Catobar configuration carrier. Their mind is made up. They will not go for any more STOVL carrier unless they get a F-35B equivalent. They are not optimistic about getting that kind of plane so they want a CATOBAR carrier no matter what because it helps expand...

    Liaoning is not really suitable for sustained operations at high sea. There is too much rust, corrosion to overcome and the structural integrity was not that great to begin with when PLAN got possession of it.

    how can a combat jet cost $500 million apiece? Are you including lifecycle costs, logistic support, spares, and munitions with the price?

    I find the cost figures cited in the above articles to be ridiculous. There is no way that the Vicky and its complete weapons packaged cost $7 billion. The acquisition of the 45 Mig29ks were included in the $2.35B figure. Vikrant was not $11 billion but around $4 billion.
