9 meters is just the cell length. The size for the system is actually more than 10m including support and mounting structures underneath the cells. Depth seems inadequate in the fore cell farm to house anything thats 10m deep, since they are still in the bow of the ship. (Assume those people...

There's no requirement for PLAN to put ABM on its ships since they aren't forward deployed to outward areas. The aft cells (48 units) of uvls are full depth (9m) and could easily accomodate an intermediate range ballistic missile carrying anti ship glider.

If that was supposed to be offensive, expect a counter. If not, don't repeat.

US IRCPS/LRHW are both 86 cm ballistic missiles with glide bodies. This UVLS could easily carry a shaved version of those missiles. Agm-183 is actually just 66 cm diameter.

Chinese UVLS has, by far, the largest cells. Compared to Mk41 cells that populate all of USN surface combatants, UVLS is 300% as large. Mk 41 - 55 x 55 x 655 cm³ UVLS - 80 x 80 x 900 cm³ I wouldn't be suprised if they put SRBM with glide vehicles into these.

Actually, Zumwalt doesn't bring anything to the table. Its guns are being ripped out. Its S band radar SPY4 doesnt exist, while the X band radar SPY3 is being replaced with EASR ( a cheaper version of SPY6 found on AB3 class). The very reason it was shaped the way it was doesn't exist...

The newer destroyers/cruisers are highly modular in nature, whether it be their sensors(block placement) or armament(UVLS cells). These will be much harder to prove obsolescent until the life of the hull is expended, since they can be rapidly retrofitted when newer sensors/armament come into...

Intimidation is half the battle. Obviously none of us are capable enough to judge the operational characteristics or efficiency/reliability of the aforementioned ships, but it does show a resolve to accelerate spending resources on the navy and also match it up with equally accelerated...

How credible is the news about the extra 8 x 055 cruisers? Also, another batch of 20 x 054a?

    Chinese Navy Destroyers

Thats how it is supposed to be. 055 cruiser - 12000 tons 052d destroyer - 8000 tons 054a frigate - 4000 tons 056a corvette - 1500 tons No more corvettes are required. However frigates will still be built. Next iteration will be about 6000 tons.

So now all the active ship lines are exhausted completely. 052d, 055, 054a, 056a... Wonder what'll happen now if not more ships of the same line.

Since the original type 055 is being said to be limited to 8 units, the next in line will be an upgraded type 055a which should have a newer sensors and more refined shape to be more survivable against the upcoming LSC. The design parameters for LSC haven't been frozen yet, but indications are...

#8 Type 055 is about to be launched from dalian shipyard. The #25 type 052d next to it probably will be launched within the next month or so( going by previous construction schedules of 052d ships at dalian), which'll bring us to the end of announced destroyer contruction lines.
