    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

Most ships (other than carriers) have a nominal lifetime of 30 years, so a total fleet size/30 gives the production rate to maintain your desired capacity. Obviously, to increase to that fleet size, you need to build faster on a steeper ramp rate. The navy i am impressed by most is JMSDF...

MoD could certainly decide on that. But they don't want to buy a submarine thats cheaper than $1B per boat now methinks.

The best way is to extend current production lines and add numbers. Not constrain it to 6. Like +3 or even +6 of the same P75

Policy and tech absorption can't do crap without money. Indian navy's share of budget is only 11.8% this year. The budget itself is one of the lowest in terms of capital funding. (as a ratio of econony) There were many chances of tech absorption in the past like type 219( which inspired the...

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

This project is still long ways out. Back in 2018, Indian navy had stated that if RFI starts by 2019, contract will happen by 2021 at earliest and the first boat would arrive 7 years from that point.(2028) Considering the slip in timeline, all 6 or whatever number is signed for will be in...

Why does the value increase by 10000 crore everytime the project is mentioned? Is it some kind of a inside joke? $11.5B for 6 conv subs!!

Not sure they'll be comfortable to include a non matured tech as Indian AIP on a system that is right around the corner. The AIP might have become functional but it takes long to test and integrate.

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

Why does commodore say "it'll be atleast 10 years before the 1st P75I is commissioned, if all goes well"? Isn't the timeline expected by IN require the 1st sub in water by 2025?

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

Even if its offered, the price will be prohibitive.. Australians are paying $3B for each, while MoD has actually revised its estimate down from 53k cr to 45k cr ie $1.08B for each.

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

Why isn't the scorpene class being extended? It would not only provide commonality for training, maintenance and SOP, but also use already existing workforce to amalgamize all knowhow due to a long run, probably even start serial production. What is it with Indian Babus wanting to create a zoo...

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

This post would've been absurd if P75 wasn't running 6 years behind schedule and if we had commissioned the last of kalvari class a year ago. Its one thing designing limited number of one offs like arihant class with each sub having different dimensions and capabilities(S4,S4*), and its duly...

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

Its a bit early to go entirely indigenous. Not doubting the domestic manufacturers, but they don't yet have enough assimilated experience to be held accountable for producing main line submarines in full rate. They should go for a follow on for 6 more P75 and get down to the nitty gritty of the...

I wpuld love to see the gymnastics indian naval forces employ to fit such large projects into such tiny shipbuilding revenue awarded by GoI

Various mentions by media and defence council peg the cost of P75I program at $8-10 bn, for 6 subs of 2000 ton category, that's $1.5 bn per ship!!! Can somebody justify that, considering we built arihant class ssbn for Rs. 4000 crore ( $600 million) which not only runs off of a nuclear plant but...
