The idea was to buy IL 76 and refit it ourselves into FTB with prolly some consultancy. Just like what chinese did.

India could buy Russian FTB when they could. Money has always been the issue for this case. As the cost for converting IL 76 into FTB was exorbitant.

Oye Your angst on why still dont have our own FTB is correct. But your are wrongly taking angst on statue. There are plenty of other schemes where you can take your rant against. Like Chajj Subsidy. That statue has helped in promoting otherwise remote part of Gujarat into becoming well known...

not to mention respetable lifecycle hours. 500 for dry is too low. airforce would be replacing engine every year - if those no's are true for wet kaveri too. I expect for wet hours to be even more less because of more temp extremes and moving parts.
