Sir, I think you mean to say "batteries", not "battalions". One regiment / missile group has 3 batteries? I hope against hope that we get the 40N6. We do not have anything remotely close to that on the horizon. XR-SAM is going to be in the 48N6 class (although with active seeker). You...

That depends on what partnership means. If its another FGFA saga, we had better stay away from funding development. If we do need it, we can buy a few off-shelf in a S-400 like deal. BTW, have the Russians asked for Indian financial support for this project yet? If they have, then we need to...

I am a fanboy when it comes to indigenous defence products so I'll keep my fingers crossed for an XR-SAM that is in the S-400 class.:) Maybe it'll be as @IndianHawk said in #714 , we'll slowly evolve XR-SAM to greater ranges and maybe it will evolve into a system comparable to S-500 in the...

Word on the street is that XR-SAM is a S-400 equivalent in consideration. Credits: @Willy2 I am actually drooling over the idea (my pet fantasy) of an XR-SAM with 400km range being deployed in Campbell Bay on Great Nicobar.

So what you are saying is that S-400 purchase is a stop-gap measure? Is this not pretty expensive for a stop gap measure? With the number of systems we are buying, it'll be possible to cover both the fronts with S-400. Looks like they are trying to kill XR-SAM, or maybe they just did not know...

Food for thought: What happens if PRC and India got to war, and PRC decides to hit India by first entering Myanmar and then flanking us on the Eastern border. Myanmar is not likely to resist, but its not like it has to. It can simply play the victim card given how vast the gap in power between...

Will that requirement not be met by indigenous QRSAM+AAA? AFAIK, Pantsyr is a next gen Tunguska. No need for different systems with same roles. Increases logistical strain. Can we not rely on QRSAM and AAA for point defence of the S-400s?

You mean China did not get all the missiles in the S-400 system because its not a signatory to the MTCR? Which other missiles (apart from 40N6) in S-400 violate MTCR? Does this mean 40N6 is available to us?:confused1:

What I meant was that if China is serious about fighting a war with India, it will never try to come over the Himalayas and will prepare an alternate land invasion route. Something like how the Wehrmacht avoided French defenses at the Maginot line and invaded the low countries before invading...

India S-400 Acquisition - News Updates and Discussions

AFAIK, the defending party has the advantage in mountain warfare (since it is dug-in atop tall mountains). So we face the uphill battle at points where we advance and preempt Chinese advance. The Chinese face the up-hill task at locations where it chooses to challenge Indian defenses. Since the...
