The only reason for Paras using AKs is the non availability of M4s and Tavors. This was the case with 11 and 12 when they were converted. INSAS uses shite OFB ammo. Which is why terrible performance. Said AKs used by infantry in Kashmir are bring replaced with Sigs.

Do you have a source for this? Because the Sig was ordered exclusively for the Northern Command and I don't think IA would have ordered it if it couldn't perform in extreme conditions. Yes the AK has loose tolerances. That woyld be a huge factor for a ragtag militia. But IA is a professional...

    Modernisation of Indian Army Infantry

Regarding IA's experience, they used 5.56 INSAS, not NATO. The Paras seem content with Tavors and M4s across the board. Which suggests that the problem is the inefficacy of our ammo, not the concept itself. Even the Russkies you seem to love so much have stuck with 5.45mm. Also how are you...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thehindu.com/news/national/army-issues-tender-for-762mm-ammunition-from-private-sector/article32415307.ece/amp/ Its not mentioned whether this is about 7.62 NATO or Soviet. I also recall that SIG had to supply some ammo along with the rifles initially. So...

Well they can be trained to use the AR-10 platform. If that is done I guarantee they will prefer it to the AK. They just need to be trained to use the bolt release properly. Which cannot be done effectively if you waste time training them on 2 different platforms. Fyi, bolt release is a little...

    Modernisation of Indian Army Infantry

Lol. Ok let's assume that's true (which it isn't). What about the multitude of other problems I.e. the ammo difference (7.62 NATO in SIG vs 7.62 Soviet in 203)? How are you going to reconcile that? Also the price. Paying $1100 for a mass produced AK? Someone needs to be hanged for that. Money...

The one in the back is a Dragunov with a night sight. First one is FAB modified AK with NV optic? Middle 2 have AKs with ADTL sights. Those look a lot tike the PSO-1. Copies? Also, can you ID the NV optic?

No. It is only so in specific terrain. Multicam tropic will work way better than flecktarn in tropics.

That would be the best. But IA probably won't do it.

White is very useful in multiple places. Pretty much everywhere except tropics. Even there it isn't an impediment.

Switching from 7.62 NATO to .308 Win solves your problems, mostly. And tweak the bullet loads and grainage a little bit. Should do for all practical purposes, but the ballistic coefficient will not change. And I think .308 BC is good enough.

    Modernisation of Indian Army Infantry

I think what @Fire and groove meant here is, 6.5mm is better performance wise, but how much better? Does it justify the costs of large scale production and discarding of the stocks of the ammo we have now. I don't think so. We (IA) certainly cannot afford a new caliber, not to mention their...

I'm more inclined towards not getting faces blown off. If you want situational awareness, just remove the visor. Same result as with a glass visor. A hardened glass or polymer visor that is small enough to fit on a helmet won't offer any real protection.

With way less protection. Might as well wear a covid visor against a 7.62 soviet
