Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

@1:15 the reporter says the second 72K batch has been ordered but I'm not sure if that's true @Gessler + the rifle really doesn't look too unwieldy in service, it just looks off because of the long hand guard, if there was some light, pistol grip and sights fitted it would look well proportioned

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Bottom line- it REALLY needs some decent optics to take advantage of, issuing it with iron sights is a pathetic joke being played on the infantrymen In other countries this would be a scandal

Is the I for India or is that just a coincidence?

It looks like there is a full p-rail at 6 o clock too though on the 716i so they’ll only need to buy the adapters for 3/9 o clock positions which would be for flashlights ( if laser designators can be mounted on 12 o clock upper rail these days or even integrated in the sights ) So I’m...

Each soldier will need at least 4 mags. And I wouldn’t hold my breath in anything , expecting bog standard stripped down rifles when they do come.

Weird. Numbers are very high for that. 4000 for IAF? Total there are about 2000 Garuds and they already all have Tavor as standard issue. Similar story for MARCOs.

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

This has got to be my biggest disappointment of this entire fiasco. Tavor7 was tailor made for IA’s requirements and WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN INDIA. Already every IWI small arm has made in India components coming from Their JV with Punj Lloyd. Instead IA chose to look the other way on this and...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Crap. Total crap. Every time Indian industry gets close to meeting IA’s requirements the Army pulls the plug and changes their requirements. This has happened SO many times that it cannot be considered a clincidence anymore. Alas, imported army will be the largest army in the world operating...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

It’s honestly the most pathetic thing, a nation that can send a probe successfully to the moon and thar is trying to project itself as a rising innovation hub can’t make a half decent rifle? Obviously it CAN but for multiple reasons doesn’t want to. This is both industry and army’s fault

For what it’s worth...... I know many will dismiss his comments outright.

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

The cheerleading being done at the prospect of Indias entire small arms industry being effectively Killed off and the effectiveness of the army arguably decreased (now training and other revenue costs will be FAR higher per soldier/rifle) makes me wonder if these people are bought off or...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

The entire small arms plan is a complete and utter JOKE. FTP Rifle FTP Carbine Neither of which will be made in India- inexcusable that is. Separately Make in India Rifle Make in India Carbine So worst case scenario the IA could be inducting 4-5 DIFFERENT weapons for VERY similar roles...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Nonsense, show me another modern army that has entirely different small arms for their frontline and non-frontline troops (SF not included), only the IA pursues this odd and insane strategy. You are trying to make a logical justifcation for this when there is none, it is all about $$$ for...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

The results speak for themselves. Why is the IA sabotaging Arjun in favour of 400 more T90? Why did they frame FRCV to favour the T-14? Where the heck did this AK103 deal come from? Russia has a LONG history of greasing palms and leveraging their intel services to secure arms deals. I cannot...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

OFB doesn’t care if they make AK103 or AK15. Pappu made the Reliance/Ambanis toxic for the foreseeable future. Who knows how the AK103 was selected but of course the SC is busy looking into The non-existent scam of the malt advanced jet India has ever procured but has never ONCE raised their...

When is the most sensible and obvious move made? When does India ever leverage its mammoth demand for discounted rates like every other customer does?

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

By the way @mohitbhagat where did you see the $990 price? For that price may as well equip the entire army, why bother with the AK-103, how much cheaper can it possibly be? Even the INSAS is around $600-700. If the IA went to a single vendor for 700-800,000 guns the savings would be immense...

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

If not for Pappu this deal for AKs could’ve gone to reliance which would’ve been some consolation as it would build up the capacity of a private player. Instead it’s gojng to the same Old OFB. No upsides to this deal.

Indian Army SIG Sauer 716 assault rifle.

Instead IA will go for The mlsf costly and inefficient method, small piecemeal orders across 2-3 different OEMs, they have to maximise their kickbacks after all.
