I assume that you are referring to the so called Haber-Bosch process to make Ammonia (N2+3H2= 2NH3). It just allowed the population explosion and then murderous sequelae... It never occurred to the bastards that fixing vast amounts of Nitrogen from Fossil Fuel was not sustainable for Nitrogen...
