    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Re: Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II Just a slight addition of information: All road bridges and culverts being built anywhere in India must conform to the 70T-tracked classification: i.e. capacity for 70 Ton tracked vehicle. The earlier requirement was 45T-tracked, with local street...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Actually in certain aspects, the arjun has exceeded the GSQR of the army manyfold, and this is evident by the shock & surprise demonstrated by the armored units after the competitive trials of the Arjun where it outmanuevred, ungunned and out-survived the T90 in extreme conditions. The only...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

We've got to stop looking for foreigners to approve of our product. We are the designers, the builders, the end users. This is a disgraceful hangover from our Colonial past and must be brought to an end. It should be us as end users who should approve or disapprove of our product. Whatever the...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Actually artillery would be the least of the worries for an AT team. The artillery as it stands today is notoriously inaccurate. And in any case it is very difficult to spot an AT team and to target them with artillery guns stationed 20-30km away. And in the heat of war, it is unlikely that a...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

You are correct that shape charge have lower penetration depth as compared to AFSPDS rounds when the target is protected with ERA. But you must also account for the fact that the LAHAT has tandem warhead which significantly reduce the effectiveness of ERA plating, assuming Pak does not put dual...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

It is not true that we dont have anything that can tear through the skin of the T80s. The Israel built Lahat missile is fired from the main gun of our T90 and the Arjun and boasts of a range of 8km and armor penetration of about 800mm Rha, not to mention the Invar bought from Russia, with...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Unmanned turret brings with it a new set of challenges which must be adressed before it can be deployed in large numbers, the biggest one being the lower number of men available for maintainance of the tank, whereas today the tank has 4 crew men to do this job, an unmanned turret will remove two...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

It is certainly true that the Arjun both in its mk1 & mkii form might not be able to stand toe to toe with the Lecrec and the Challengers, simply because the manufactures have a century of experience in designing and deploying tanks, not to mention that they are were until recently backed up by...

300mm of frontal armor on the turret? You might as well say that we copied the tank from a WWII design. Anyway where do you think the $8-9 million of the tank cost goes to? The toilet?

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Okay, thats surprising. To think armor technology has come so far to enable a light tank to compete with ajeya. But then it fails to explain why the IA cancelled the rfp for light tanks? Holding territory in the plateau region near ladakh will require armor in conjunction with attack helis IMHO

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

I think the IA cancelled the tender for light tanks some time back. One of the reasons might be that these would be sitting ducks infront of pla. Due to superior infrastructure they can move tanks by road to our border regions.

Il76 has a max payload of 45-50 tons,so i doubt either t90 or arjun can be airlifted by the said aircraft.t72 most definitely can be.

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

That would make sense. I would have rather preferred a formation of attack helis to take over the role of armor.they would not be limited by tarrain and would aid in swift response in a manuevring battlefield.

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Not exactly true.the primary role of a tank is to punch through enemy lines, so it is usually in hostile territory, unless defending. Thus no supporting infrastructure is available to them even in the deserts,or the plains...so long as u can keep the supply line for the tanks open they can be...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

If u would look at the locations where the tanks were lost, u would find that they were lost only in the urban setup, nightmare for any tank commander. In the open, flir onboard the gunships, uavs as well as the thermal sights onboard the merkava picked out the AT teams from a vey safe range...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

One factor that we (IA) have as advantage is that we have a long experience of sustaining bases through air route only....something our neighbours haven't had much experience.it will be crucial as modern warfare is manuevre warfare with swift responses to any battlefield event. Now coupling that...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

The problem with deploying atgms in the plateau of ladakh is that they will be out in the open without any cover....suicide anyone? Not to mention that the battlefield will be buzzing with drones and gunships, without aircover infantry would never survive a day of intense fighting.

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Ther are no railroads or for that matter proper roads that can handle tank movement going to ladakh.so incase of unexpected hostilities,we will need to use the air route to rush assets there, with the available ground routes providing logistics support.another thing is that alongwith the c17 we...

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Well the trijunction between india, bhutan and china is a place identified by IA as a potential zone for tank warfare...sometime in 2010-11 india deployed a t72 regiment with mech infantry. But ya the region is quite small.

    Arjun vs T90 MBT

Well stalemate is what india would prefer. I doubt us going on an offensive in the ladakh region.but submunitions and cluster rounds will likely be less of a challenge as compared to artillery barrage. Guided munitions have struggled in the past in the high mountains, not to mention that due...
