@ghost, I appreciate your effort behind the renderings you have done. Have you considered moving over into 3D? Try Blender. You can download it for free. The learning curve, as I hear, is a bit steep, however, there are plenty of tutorials online that you could use to learn it.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Well, I guess that is the point of this thread. MCIWS = Multi-Calibre . . . (rest of it is not necessary to answer your question) :)

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Let me hypothesize. We have the following potential rounds that may be fired from the MCIWS: 7.62×54 mm (too large?) 7.62x51 mm (too large?) 7.62×39 mm 6.8×43 mm 5.56×45 mm 5.45x39 mm So, the amount of gas pressure created in the barrel will be different. The MCIWS does look like having a long...

I had already read what you have written. He visited as part of this website, Indian Defence Review. This means, he visited ARDE as a private visitor, and not as part of a government fact finding mission. Yes, a rifle should be picked on merit, and not on looks. In the recent trials, all...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

This author, Danvir Singh, does a better job than the other colonel (look at the comments on the article). I quote: Aping the philosophy of the West, the Indian Army wanted a rifle that would incapacitate a solider instead of killing him thus increasing the logistics burden for each soldier...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

I doubt it. There is an interview given by Gen. V. K. Singh on the INSAS. There, he made a comment about the INSAS rounds having a very straight trajectory. I suspect the rounds used by Indian infantry is somewhat equivalent to US civilian ammo, and more powerful than US military ammo. USMC and...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

The best way to compare is to use the same type of ammunition (grain wise, not just calibre wise) on INSAS and M-16. The US military ammo is less powerful than US civilian ammo. Many fora report their observations but often leave out the details. Without the details, we cannot have a...

Yes, that is what I also said, that the picture is not clear, so I could be wrong. Also, my comment was about the flash suppressor. The old MCIWS' flash suppressor looks like like INSAS' flash suppressor.

I wasn't talking about these pictures. I was talking about the other picture with the MCIWS in the hands of Rao Inderjit Singh. The gun in the two pictures quoted above has a flash suppressor like the regular INSAS.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

It is not very clear, but I have a feeling the old MCIWS flash suppressor looks like that of INSAS and the new MCIWS flash suppressor looks like that of the Excalibur. Adapted from original picture by @Kunal Biswas...

Looks like they replaced the non-adjustable gas block with an adjustable one, like in INSAS. A gas regulator is needed if the gas block has to be adjusted when switching from one calibre to another.

Re: Successful user trial of MSMC Regarding the window in the mag-well, India has widely used the FN-FAL (clone, to be precise). This is a picture showing the mag-well. This is a 3D model, but that really isn't the point. Comparing the mag-well of the MCIWS and the FN-FAL, I doubt the...

I will add another perspective, to counter that "low" stopping power argument. First of all, at distances of about 300 m, the 5.56 mm NATO* would cause so much internal tissue damage, that an injury is likely to be terminal, and likely too cause inevitable death. Notice the asterix (*) next...

Don't know. I also don't know why it would not be made in India. I did not say that the Tavor will be made in RFI. Please read my original comment again. Don't have the figures. RFI, or for that matter any other ordnance factory, is not meant to exclusively produce standard issue rifles. It...

The only AR currently being made in RFI is INSAS. I am talking about what might be made in the future.

Tavor, or variant thereof. Why? I don't know. All I know if that after INSAS production is wrapped up, they will switch to either of the two.

Why so? Even if calibre change is not the issue. Barrel is changed in the field. We were taught how to change the barrel of a Bren clone, if it overheats. In case of MCIWS, there is additional change of the bolt and magazine, but why only in armory?
