    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Surely the IA's experiment with 6.8mm is over for at least another 15 years? They have ditched the idea of "multi-cal" and are going for single-calibre rifles only (7.62 NATO assualt rifles and 5.56mm carbines), they aren't going to intiate an RFI/RFP for 6.8mm rifles (not that there are many of...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

The MCIWS is said to be abe to fire 5.56mm, 6.8mm and 7.62mm calibres. Maybe the long term goal is to move to just 5.56mm and 6.8mm but for an interim period the IA will still need to have the ability to fire 7.62mm. It doesn't make sense for the IA to have 3 calibres at one time.

Nah, it's still multi-cal, they have just changed the name.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

MCIWS is a huge step up for the Indian footsoldier in almost every respect and a good progression for the Indian defence industry. If done well this rifle could secure some serious export orders. The INSAS was always accurate and reliable but bad press and poor build quality ruined its...

It will be avalble to all units, the SF have a free choice on weapons so they will choose what best suits their needs.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

I don't disagree but all I would say is that it lokos like it is the 7.62mm barrel (ie the COIN barrel/calibre) that is longer and here accuracy may not be as important as the fighting will be more up close- as is the nature of CT/COIN operations. Addtionally, it is possible(/likely) that the IA...

It was rejected in favour of the conventional design. Both designs were considered and finally the IA sided against it.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Remember, here we are seeing two different barrels- the 7.62mm and 5.56mm barrels appear to have different apearances. The 5.56mm is the top most (very INSAS like) and the 7.62mm is seen on the 2nd and 3rd pictures. I still don't know what the 6.8mm barrel rumoured to have been devloped would...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

It depends on which barrel is fitted- the 7.62mm barrel looks rather long (might be an optical illusion because it simply seems a lot "chunkier") but the 5.56mm looks fine as seen below I'm guessing a lot of the INSAS's internals are carried foreward on the MCIWS especially the 5.56mm barrel...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

How can you possibly say that then- having never seen it in person or used it? Just watch this video to see how it is anything but crap: Look how well thought out the rifle, everything is intuitive and simple- this is no accident, this is the result of years of R&D and decades of expertise...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

A fair argument sir. It's all true and surely pre-emption is the best thing to do which I hope/suspect the IA will be aware of.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Well if you're talking about the Zittara/MTAR (which it looks like you are) then I don't think this has much to do with the Indian Military as all 3 SFs have the TAR/CTAR-21s not the MTAR and the those who do use the MTAR/X-95 in India (CAPFs and certain state police forces) have been receiving...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Why would the Tavor be made in India? Where is the demand? The ONLY way this would make sense would be if the entire IA adopted the Tavor as their standard-issue AR which doesn't look all that likely. NOTHING has been mentioned about this, could you please elaborate sir? Explain what you know.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Exactly sir, 9kg of weight is not much to these guys. He is by far the fittest man I know and the PARAs on the whole are a very tough/fit bunch of guys (he wasn't SF so but naturally they are also very fit).

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Fair points mate but the ITBP isn't the IA. No you're both right, I meant to say that not all this ammo was carried in Magazines, he didn't give an exact figure but said most would be carried in their packs with a few spare fully-loaded mags and then about 6-7 on their person and one in the...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Another thing to note is the IA is actively improving its logistics arm and is digitising its stores so this "piece of paper" request is a moot point.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

He was a a SF and served in a regular infantry btn(not going to say which one) before joining the PARAs and he said that throughout his career the troops would go out with "considerably more" ammo than 100 rounds when I asked him a few months back and that in the PARAs (again non SF) they would...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

You don't seem to fathom the IA ALREADY has 2 different types of ammo (7.62 and 5.56) as they use the AK for COIN ops so I can't see the MCWIS ADDING to logistical issues but only reducing them.

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Where did you all get this figure of 100? My uncle is ex 7 PARA and he said he used to go out with 700+ rounds of 5.56mm for his Tavor, he even said they used to sometimes have a mix of rounds (they had carried 5.56mm Frangible and 5.56mm Armor-Piercing Hard Core along with their standard 5.56mm...
