MCIWS with folding stock displayed at Indian Science Congress Mysuru. Pic courtesy DRDO. The above clears the doubts whether the MCIWS is derived from the M-16 family with buffer spring in stock. *61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62*61-62

    1. 7.62x51 magazine well size is significantly larger, unless a CM-901 style magwell is adapted. 2. 7.62x39 and 5.56x45 can use a common magazine well. 3. Barrel change between 7.62x51 and lower calibers would require change of spring as well due to much more massive amounts of...

45 degree gas port changed to 90 degree gas port. The 45 degree gas port is known to cause more fouling due to greater bullet jacket shear in 5.56x45 mm. A 90 degree port hole (circular) can be placed between riflings, whereas a 45 degree port hole (oval) will overlap with riflings creating more...

I am being rather polite here, I don't think you grasp the concept sufficiently. INSAS bullets have sufficient lethality till 700-800 meters, yet the effective range of the rifle is only 400 meters. Why ? because due to the stability of rifle, sights etc. and the trajectory of the round, the...

    DRDO Multical Rifle Unveiled

Many modern rifles are around the size of M4 with 13-14 inch barrels (Bren Cz 805, Beretta ARX 160, FN SCAR). The modern carbines are even shorter with 10-11 inch barrels. 18-20 inch barrels are no longer good enough.

The barrel and flash suppressor are also different from INSAS now. They do need to cut down the rifle length, it's only marginally smaller than INSAS with a collapsed butt (905 mm). With an extended butt (980 mm), it's even longer than INSAS.

The material is magnesium aluminium alloy which is not very suitable for casting or stamping but works well with milling. They will most likely outsource the furniture (they already did), the raw forges required for milling, have another set of suppliers do the milling and simply make barrel and...

I don't see the point in unibody solution. With separate units, grenade fire control computer can be used without heavy thermal sights and thermal sights can be used even when grenade launching capability is not required. Usually grenade FCC are capped with a moving red dot sight, which I am...

It is entirely possible to use one common magazine for all rounds (except 7.62 NATO). There's a magazine called Longziz #2 that can fire Grendel, SPC, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, .223 remington and 5.56 NATO. Check out these videos:-
