Marut was an aerodynamically sweet and the machine was somewhat survivable for its day (can't say about the cockpit). Probably somebody may be able to jam a Kaveri into a Marut but that will most probably destroy its aerodynamics and then the people trying it will have to change a lot more than...

@ersakthivel, Apparently there are a lot of discussions going on about related matters, which have a direct bearing on LCA Mk-2. idrw.org/us-indo-jet-engine-jet-set-go-or-no/ This report (February 6, 2015) mentions 'possibility of partial transfer of technology' under the general report of...

The 99 on order engines (F-414INS6) can easily be used solely in the NLCA Mk-2. There is a real danger of the IAF LCA Mk-2 being scrapped. And that means 300-120 will be open to 'Make In India' which is a queer amalgam of 'Buy and make' + 'Buy global' categories.

LCA Mk-2 was to AMCA what Prithvi was to Agni. All the tech before going into Agni(s) is rigourously tested on the dummy Prithvi tests. Even for our BMD the Prithvi was used as a test bed. LCA Mk-1A / 1P will have a hard time doing all that unless the ADA+HAL+IAF+MOD begin to talk the same...

@Jagdish58, you probably did not get the game. IAF now wants to restrict LCA Mk-1 or Mk-1A to just 120 and probably even kill off Mk-2. Reality is IAF has about 14 sqads of Mig21 and Mig27 going out of business. That is something like 300 aircrafts. Either Parrikar has to ensure that IAF is...

Did you mean NLCA Mk-2 because NP-2 is already flying. What would IAF wait for? Anyhow NP-2 is not going to be earth-shakingly different from NP-1. Its based on the same engine and nearly nothing extra. The extra the NP-2 brings to the table is that it is essentially the version that can be...

Mucho honoured. But I must admit, I am partial towards Russian stuff. But only after India First. On balance, I will never end up the guy who support India First only after his favourite team is out of contention. Or when the intent is to deny the disfavoured team a opportunity to...

One of the links you provide has this: You see this is extensive changes to the engine. Now try thinking what would happen to LCA Mk-1 if the same approach is taken with the LCA Mk-1A. 1) Reduce Landing gear weight 2) Reduce corresponding ballast 3) Now the structure does not need to support...

Yes, the landing gear was made heavier and there would be benefits from the iterative exercise you suggest. I had reported Saurav Jha's tweet because what happens is the work is actually going to be considerably more complex in some other manners if the weight reduction exercise is attempted...

Saurav Jha is no engineer but he is usually fed good info by his sources. I am not saying its impossible. But all this monkey business about Mk-1P makes me fear for the Mk-1 and Mk-2.
