C919 is scheduled to fly in 2014, and the large military transport project, which was first revealed in 2009, will take to the air as early as spring next year. Here is another link Chinese New Heavy Military Transporter may fly in 2012|China Military Power Mashup. And here is an excerpt:
Gao Jianshe, vice general manger of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), said in a speech that all cadres and employees of the AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry (Group) Company (XAC) should complete their scientific research and production and ensure that the large jet will make its maiden flight before the 18th CPC National Congress scheduled next year, said the release issued on May 12.

Unlike the stealth fighter project which to this day has not been officially acknowledged, the 200-ton class military transport project was first revealed to the public through official channels. Things are happening so fast in China these days, that western observers who judge chinese progress based on their own experience&capability, ususally got it wrong. 20 years ago China didn't have a single kilometer of express way, today China has 74000 km of them, longer than all the express ways in the EU combined. 10 years ago China had no high-speed rail in operation, today China has almost 5000km such railways in operation, the longest in the world already, with another 15000km under construction. 10 years ago, private ownership of cars was in still in its infancy in China, today China is the largest car market in the world by far.

China has an excellent record in finishing large projects on schedule, there is little reason the large transport aircraft will be an exception.
you missed the economy part mate.

Thats right, we will have a strategic transport plane flying before the little regional airliner with no wind tunnel to test it! We are mighty!
If Y-20 or whatever it is called does fly next year, would you agree to commit suicide? If not, then shut up and wait till the end of next year, would you? This project has been in the making for years, and unlike many others an officially acknowledged onw, a rare case in China. Why do you rather want to listen to the gossips spilled out by the russians? And may I remind you that C919 is not a regional jet, ARJ21 is a regional jet, C919 is meant to compete with A320 and B737, it is only one level shy of the ultimate such as A350 or the dreamliner.

They were removed for not signing CISMOA & LSA..
What is relation between CISMOA & lSA with in-flight refueling probes ?

Last time when a C-130J landed it wasn't too equipped with Probes, When asked they said it create unwanted drag in flight hence more fuel consumption, so they were removed, But when needed they will be attached..

India may buy 45 P&W F117-PW100 engines for powering C 17 transport aircraft

By Frontier India | June 20th, 2011 |

India is expected to purchase approximately 45 engines, including 5 spares, from Pratt & Whitney to power the 10 C -17 Globemaster III's from Boeing. Each Boeing C-17 military aircraft is powered by four Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 engines and with spares. As stated by Boeing and the White House, this trade agreement is valued at approximately $4.1 billion and supports an estimated 22,160 jobs in US, including thousands in Connecticut. Once the agreement is fulfilled, the Indian Air Force will be the owner and operator of the largest fleet of C-17s outside of the United States.

Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01) applauded news that the Indian Government has formally approved an agreement to purchase 10 C-17 Globemaster III military aircrafts, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.

Last July, Congressman Larson invited Indian Ambassador to the United States, Meera Shankar, to visit the Pratt & Whitney facilities in East Hartford and meet with United Technology executives and Pratt machinists. The focus of the visit was to expand the relationships between Connecticut manufacturers and the Indian Government, with much of the time spent discussing the C-17 program.

"Last year, Ambassador Shankar spoke to UTC executives and machinists about the great economic potential of expanding trade relations between her nation and the United States – and with this recent decision to finalize the purchase of C-17 aircraft, we are seeing this relationship solidify," said Congressman Larson.

can you put tank on to this and send it ???
Yes it can carry any tanks.

Cargo bay of C-17 is 26.82m long, 5.48m wide and 3.76 m high and Arjun's dimensions are 10.64m in length, 3.9m in width and 2.32m in height.
C-17 can carry up to 76,000kg so its not a prob to carry even the Arjun-II.

Kunal, in the other thread for C-130 it was previously discussed that might be due to CISMOA, the refuelling probe could have been removed.. I wasn't aware of the above reason...

Anyways thanks for the info.. But having a refuelling probe in the aircraft will have that impact on fuel consumption?? Am quiet skeptic on it. can you shed some info on it?

I spoke to some of the pilots. The refuelling probe was removed for the ferry flight since there were fuel consumption implications as a result of the attendant drag. The probe will be fitted back shortly.
Livefist: The Veiled Vipers

Due to the Prob the Airflow over the Head of C-130 is not streamlined, Hence it create Drag, The Drag cause pressure on Engines hence Engines use more RPM to maintain average speed, Hence more Fuel consumption..

Seriously, CISMOA and Refueling probe? Please do basic google search before posting uneducated crap, and I say this with all due respect.

India Saves 30,000 American Jobs

India will save jobs of nearly 30,000 American workers and throw a lifeline for a Boeing aircraft plant in the US after it committed to buy 10 US transport planes in the largest ever defence deal with Washington.

New Delhi committed in a $ 4.1 billion deal early this month to buy 10 Boeing's C-17 Globemaster-III transport planes for its military, saving the aircraft, the US military's workhorse and its factory in Long Beach, California from closure.

Around 4,500 Boeing employees support the C-17 program with 3,700 workers in Long Beach and the rest based out of St. Louis, Georgia and Arizona. In addition, Boeing has a C-17 supplier base of approximately 25,000 people in 44 states employed by around 600 American firms.
