In Indian's eye, they are all copy each other. Brave Indian!

Is Boeing copy Airbus, or Airbus copy Boeing?
boeing and airbus don't copy because ,

rights to copy are given to only cheap chinese.

normally the second prototype--- PT20002 is the one for ground test, Static trials and fatigue test

just before the New year's Day of 2014, the AVIC group--the Y20 project developer-- gifted many suppliers, sub contractors and co-operaters some Y20(PT20001) Scale models as souvenir... the scale model is quite detail rich,interestingly there are another four extra engines models in the packing box...

1--Y20 with 4 D30(WS18) engines
2,3,4-- one Replaceable WS20 high bypass engine model fitted.



the WS20 engine project has entered advanced R&D phase---inflight test on the Flying Testbed.

China Eyes 400 Y-20 Cargo Planes For Military Transport

China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) will need at least 400 Y-20 cargo planes by Xi'an Aircraft Corp to catch up with capabilities of the U.S, Russia and India, People's Daily cited a report published by the National Defense University of China. As per the report, China needs these planes to conduct military operations in different battlefronts along the Asia-Pacific region. Bohai Sea Green Pearl, a 36,000- tonne ferry vessel launched in Aug 2012, can also be modified into China's largest amphibious augmentation platform when the PLA Navy needs.
Various weaknesses regarding China's force projection capabilities were laid out in the report as well. First, China does not have enough large ferry vessels like the Bohai Sea Green Pearl to launch a large-scale amphibious invasion. Second, China does not have enough large military cargo planes such as the Y-20. Currently, the United States Air Force has 700 large transports used for strategic airlift. The Russian Air Force has 800 medium transports while the Indian Air Force has 200. Meanwhile, some air force bases in China are still unable to accommodate large cargo planes like the Il-76.

CFM International CFM56 would be a good Referent here (quite similar size and thrust ,even the design....)
WS20 is a 12-13 tons class engine and more close to the late varient of CFM56 family...

WS20(an engineering prototype) used to be displayed with C919 Airliner as SF-A Engine Project...it was the candidate power for this Airliner project. but the principal power pack would be SF-B(CJ1000A) engine project which is at the same tech level as the New LEAP engine...obviously the LEAP and CJ1000A engines would be one generation beyond CFM56 and WS20, and the coming C919's would face the next generation of the current two sucessful Single-aisle aircrafts families--- B737MAX and A320NEO. C919 has no choice but to choose the same level of modern engine. so WS20's chance for C919 would be very slim...but if PLAAF chooses the C919 as the basic flatform for Special Mission Aircrafts (AWACS ,ASW ,ELINT) ,WS20 might be the first choice because WS20 would be main power of Y20 ...and C919 might start with the imported LEAP engines and CJ1000A would join the party later coz the development needs time...WS20 would be the only choice for PLA's C919 varients for quite while.

and in another airfield even further north and colder...

中国网1月12日讯 据中航工业成都发动机公司官方网站消息,2014年12月6日,是成发历史上特别值得纪念的日子,因为这一天,某型号发动机自9月16日成功交付试飞单位以来,历时80天,在完成了地面装机、测试改装和科研试飞等工作后,圆满完成了整个试飞工作。在试飞中,发动机工作稳定,参数正常,满足试飞技术要求和大纲规定,得到了空军领导和某试飞单位的一致好评。

在试飞过程中,公司高度重视,全力以赴做好各项工作,同时挂飞也得到了上级领导和试飞单位的大力支持,这一切都为某型号发动机鉴定试飞成功奠定了坚实基础。

为圆满完成试飞任务,公司精心制定了试飞保障方案,明确了保障目标,落实了相关责任;采取"分工合作、责任自负"çš„原则组织试飞保障,并负责发动机技术质量问题的判定和分类等相关工作;与中航工业西控等附件厂联合成立了试飞现场服务保障组,全力配合试飞某单位开展发动机服务保障,解决试飞过程中暴露的问题,同时与飞行员积极沟通、协调,明确每次试飞任务的工作内容。

9月16日,公司将备试的发动机交付试飞单位,在经过了装机、测试改装等一系列工作后,确保了10月29日首飞成功的实现。

本次试飞任务圆满完成,主要得益公司成立的现场技术保障组、专家组的有力组织和现场保障。在明确了保障程序、信息交流方式、保密规定和制定了备件与故障件返修方案等措施基础上,为试飞工作起到了保驾护航作用。为确保试飞工作顺利开展,试飞现场保障组成员在组长张北川的带领下,仔细研究试飞技术要求,将存在共性的试飞项目统计归类,并与试飞单位相关人员充分沟通,共同制定最佳的计划方案,达到减少无效试飞,以确保某型发动机有效试飞。

本次试飞任务圆满完成,还得益保障组与试飞单位的紧密合作。双方在制定了完整的工作程序和故障解决方案的同时,还制定了早会制度,每天早上8点10分组织召开早会,及时总结前期试飞工作情况,安排下一步试飞相关工作;对地面检查发现的故障,坚持当天发现当天解决的原则,绝不影响下一架次的试飞。在整个试飞过程中,保障组与机务人员密切配合,全程到场,通过对一系列问题的及时处置,有效缩短了试飞周期,使试飞工作按时推进。

从试飞飞机在巨大轰鸣声中展翅飞翔的喜悦,到收获试飞圆满成功的自豪,其过程充满了艰辛。但最终收获的成功,彰显了成发人立志航空报国的坚强意志。两个多月的试飞,不仅证实了公司研制的某发动机性能稳定、可靠,也让公司熟知了整个试飞流程,更标志着某型发动机研制进程的重大历史突破。
the last test flight of this phase took place on 6th Dec 2014, the first test began on 29th Oct. this phase lasted for 80 days...



the test bed was Another Il-76 Flying test bed, but it's not the one for WS20 engine test (obviously ,that one--No.760 is busy with the WS20 tests).

very surprisingly ,it was the test bed/Prototype (No.762) of the AWACS of KJ2000! one of engines on the left wing was replaced by the WS18.when the test flight of KJ2000 was over ,the huge radar dome was removed and the former Russian A50I platform was arranged to other flying test..

the WS18 engine mainly would replace the imported D30KP2 serial on Il76 and H-6K bombers ,and as the back-up plan for the Y20 project..

1. the 5th prototype (PT20005/785 ?) made the first flight already...


2. the high altitude flight test has been on for a while .the PT 783 was spotted in some high land airports at different places...
