CorkScrew Tanks​

Corkscrew tanks didn't run on the typical caterpillar type treads, instead propelled by giant corkscrews. Just like an electric screwdriver pulls into a piece of wood, so these treads would cruise along the ground, regardless of terrain. Their travel was a bit erratic, and the tanks had to be too lightweight to be useful in combat.

The Vespa 150 TAP was designed by the French to be used by airborne forces. It would provide mobility and an anti-armor capability usually lacking in airborne formations.

The weapon was not designed to be fired while mounted, though it could due to the nature of the weapon. It was designed be removed and mounted on a tripod also carried by the scooter.

They were designed for two man team operation, a second scooter would carry the ammunition. Approximately 800 were used during the Algerian war.

Scooters were in common usage for airborne forces. Their cheap unit price and extremely light weight made them perfect for air-delivery by parachute. Cushman scooters and even light motorcycles were used by British and US airborne forces during World War II. The concept of mounting a 75mm US made M20 however. That was unique to say the least!
