India’s food regulator to roll out hygiene ratings for meat shops amid coronavirus outbreak

India’s food regulator will continue its ongoing inspection and auditing of slaughterhouses in the country especially as the global outbreak of the Coronavirus epidemic—that reportedly originated at a wet market in China’s Wuhan City—has highlighted the need for ensuring the hygiene and safety standards of meat shops and slaughterhouses in the country.

The FSSAI that has already been auditing meat and fish shops, and slaughterhouses for some time now has stepped up efforts in the past six to eight months to ensure better safety and standards at such shops, the food regulator’s CEO, Pawan Agarwal told reporters on Monday.

The regulator is also in the process of introducing hygiene ratings for meat shops.

The Wuhan coronavirus has infected thousands and killed more than 170 people. Just as the disease itself has spread rapidly, so too has disinformation about its origins and possible cures have proliferated on social media.

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have been racing to limit the spread of bogus conspiracies about remedies for coronavirus and theories about how it started. A blizzard of false posts, videos and groups have been springing up regardless.

Meanwhile, Russian media has been quick speculate that American bioterrorism could be responsible for the coronavirus outbreak - despite a complete lack of evidence.

I rarely eat non-veg but first time in my childhood i saw live chicken killing, i decided to quit eating meat, it is horrible

Our ancient culture's encourages vegetarianism (Hindu/Buddha/Jain) at the time where we have MILLIONS of wild animals roaming in Indian subcontinent.

In my opinion. We are organic beings so if we have to survive then we have to eat organic things. Which can be plant, animal or anything else. But its just normal decency that we should kill the thing first and then try to cook eat.
