Very true many Chinese papers are rehashed research from the west. Very little innovation is coming out of China. Look at Japan low volume but quality research.

So is many papers of ours. Citations column data is the only one that gives you the real picture.

We have a long way to go in doing basic science & research.

IMO some areas our research base and tech prowess is superior to many even Chinese like space,pharma/bio tech etc,we've develop it by our own.

But unlike Chinese our public universities has no accountability, no research culture or best,giving a degree.Space,Bio technology/Pharma,Chemical engineering

because IISc is the only credible research uni in India. IIT's are more applied.

The companies should invest in IIT's and IISc for their projects. This is will students fair experience plus it will also enhance the company's profile.

Also a law must be made so that IITans should be involved in public sector like DRDO,just like it's compulsory for MBBS students to work in rural or Hilly areas in some states.

And IISC is the only institute which ranked among some best research institute in BRICS and in Asia.

We are decade away in all these.

Research is s major weakness for India in acedamia and in industry . India does not have the willingness to invest the time ,money and effort for a lot of research(not always the case in many fields) but things will change

dont know what you saying with these charts,

but isnt patents is a different thing,

any country can apply for patents as many as they want,

and patent granting...but we know nothing about which patents are granted and for what ???

these patents could be anything other than new tech,

it could be some ancient chinese herbal,

and also hugh difference between chinese patents application and actual grants.

thrice more than japan,

four times more than south korea,

twice more than all the rest of the world combine,

just because china is geographically bigger than every others except usa,
