Why the hell do east asian's have this fetish for Italian brands?I haven't seen this sort of obsession in Indians atleast in the South
They are also obsessed with trying to look like goras.

I have never seen an Indian bleach his/her hair blonde, but I've seen it plenty of times with all East Asians, including Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese.

East Asians need to stop believing that "white is god".

I'm not sure about Japanese, they have a very strong culture.

But Koreans and Chinese (to an extent) really do want to ape the white man (much more than some Indians). They're the first to change their names (think Peter Lee and John Chang etc) to fit into Anglo Saxon society

They do, but they're still as obsessed as the rest.

I've lived in America. Nearly all the Chinese and Koreans (including the foreign-born) have English names, like Joe, Kevin (that seems to be a really popular one), and Daniel.

The Japanese are much better in this regard. Most of them keep their Japanese names.

South Korea is a lost cause. It's become a clone of America.

Surprisingly Japan being a major US client is the cultural leader for East Asia (at-least for outsiders).

China is somewhere between the two

I should also add that trying to look fairer is not the same as Anglo-Saxon imitation. It is an ancient preference in India that predates contact with Europeans. You can call it "racist" or not; the majority of Indians are neither dark nor white, but somewhere in between. Personally, I dislike both very dark and very white.

But dying hair blonde, adopting English names, and pretending to be Anglo-Saxon in every other imaginable way, is a clear case of obession with the white man. I am not necessarily blaming you East Asians for it, as many other cultures do the same, but denying it is always unhealthy.

The best you can do is dig up 1996 articles?

The level of white obsession is much higher in East Asian countries than in South Asia, that is a fact.

The day you see Indian girls dying their hair blonde, you can start arguing against that.
They don't dye their hair blonde because if doing so they would risk getting burnt alive. Another reason, blonde hair, bleached or natural, is best suited to women who have fine and straight hair and preferably pale skin.

Japan has done a good job of maintaining local customs while extensively adopting foreign ones. One should appreciate the degree to which the Japanese have assimilated extremely different cultural concepts, sometimes to humorous effect.

Japan is probably the only country in the world (certainly in Asia) where it is considered socially acceptable to read porn magazines in public trains and buildings. You can't even do that in America.

Interesting timing of this thread. Currently tension has resumed between China and Vietnam over the Spatly Islands and territorial waters dispute.

Vietnamese are swarming all over social media sites on the internet to spread Vietnam's government propaganda, but as the much larger belligerant, China doesn't need the same, and hence there's nothing of this sort from China.

There are quite a few instances where China (Chinese people and Chinese government) spread "friendly" propaganda about its smaller belligerants when China is actually engaged in hostilities (both active and passive).

I think it's become a bit of a policy of China to build a positive and friendly facade to cover its military maneuvers that are completely contradictory to that facade.

In an old Chinese saying: "The barking dog won't bite". I don't think Vietnam will mess up with China but I also don't like to see a Potential conflict between two countries. However, if there will be one, it will be resolved soon just like a family fighting between married couple. Vietnam still needs China, and China needs Vietnam too.

Vietnam isn't the "barking dog" here, it's the "scared little girl walking down a deserted street in the dark", while China is the "tall dark figure that is chasing her". The "dark figure" is trying to sound comforting and friendly, but the "little girl" isn't taking her chances.

The "little girls" has been with "dark figure" for many years like family member. They like each other sometime and hate each other sometime. Let them continue their love and hate fair and stay away from family business.

Both "the little girl" and the "dark figure" have reset their foreign-policy towards each other with the establishment of their respective modern states (i.e. People's Republic of China, and Socialist Republic of Vietnam), so their civilizational and historical ties have become inconsequential.

havent read the whole thread

actually the northern part of vietnam is linked to the entire southern part of china including the island of HAINAN , as a region called "CANTONIA" and like tibet , the people there , even in the chinese part of it claim that they are discriminated against by the Han Chinese ....... there is even a provisional government of CANTONIA ..... a simple web search will yield results as to what i have alluded to .

Realistically speaking the 'little girl" and "dark figure", have to be creative in pursuit of a middle way i.e. "joint exploration while shelfing sovereignty dispute". Otherwise things will again get either deadlocked or confrontational if everyone moves ahead grabbing as much as possible. If China is able to cut a deal with VN other claimants (esp. Philippines) of S. China Sea will become less relevant. "Dark figure" should not overdo that though now it seems a good timing for him to get tough on "little girls" for the resource-rich sea against the backdrops of the US' "strategic contraction".

Well if extreme nationalism is your cup of tea, then I guess Sinocentrism would excite you. The Sinosphere would also include Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia.
